At this time we have no idea who Dennis Springer father was. I have collected facts and documenst, so this who I think might be Dennis Springer. Please read and let me know what you think. Thank you, Janet

William and Thomas Springer here could they be the missing descendents of the Springer of Delaware? I do not know but I do know that there were two missing Springers by the name William and Thomas. John Springer mentioned here could be also a Delaware Springer descendents. William Springer of Delaware was born blind like is father, so was the William Springer of 1790 census blind Or William the son of John Springer of Delaware too. Thomas Springer I think is from Delaware read on and you see why I think so.

Below I try to answer some of these questions and now find out I have more questions then answers. Please read all the facts that I found and let me know what you think. Janet

FACTS: James (also know as Jacob) Springer, (son of KARELL Springer and MARIA HINDRICHSSDOTTER\Hendricks) b: 1703 in Christiana Hundred, New Castle Co, DE, d: 1763 in Christiana Hundred, New Castle Co, DE m'd: 1731 in Christiana Hundred, Nya Swerige (New Sweden), PA to 1st MARY BISHOP b: ABT. 1713.

They had son name Thomas b 1755 (named in mother's will). Thomas disappears from home and never heard of again. Could the Thomas Springer found in 1779 Old 96th D SC be their son? Sure, but I cannot prove it for this Thomas dies or disappears after 1794. In the 1790 Census of Union County, South Carolina

William Springer with 2 males over 16. Is one of these males Thomas? I do not know but he could be for there is a William Springer of Delaware missing too. This William is born blind like his father. Read on.

John Springer, (son of KARELL Springer and MARIA HINDRICHSSDOTTER\Hendricks) b: 1699 in Christiana Hundred, New Castle Co, Delaware, d 1772. John was born blind and md 1st 1726 Maria Hendrickson and 2nd 1736 Mary Dempsey.

Have two sons name John and William. William is missing but John Springer of Delaware born 1744 d 1798-1801 Georgia. If William, in 1790 was blind and Thomas could be living with him to help him, that you mean Thomas died after 1794. Now from what I found out the blind Springers did not need much help. It the male here with William is not Thomas or William Springer of Delaware then he could be who think he is below.

John Springer of Delaware born 1744 d 1798-1801 Georgia. Md Susannah Springer (a cousin) is know have two children,

Sarah Springer b 1762 It is know that after Susannah death, John married Catherine Bullock and that marriage date was 1779. The Delaware family Archivists has no idea if John Springer and Catherine had children. After the death of Catherine Bullock Springer, John married for the third time to ANN GREEN was born at Granville, North Carolina. She married JOHN SPRINGER on 9 Dec 1783 at Warren, North Carolina. Ann parents are WILLIAM GREEN SR was born in 1737 at Brunswick, Virginia. He married MARY CHRISTMAS, daughter of JOHN CHRISTMAS SR and MARY GRAVES, in 1758 at Granville, North Carolina. He died after 10 Apr 1798 at Warren, North Carolina. . (Note from Janet; notice the Bullock for his wife and you find a John Bullock signing documents for the family in SC and GA)

Dennis Springer and Hezekiak Springer found in 1790 census, I believe are brothers.

UNION DIST., SOUTH CAROLINA 1800 CENSUS - ONLY INDEXED BY LAST NAME, FIRST NAME Compiled by: Paul R. Sarrett, Jr. Revised: 11/03/96 [email protected]

S165 SPRINGER John 1800 M-32 50 222; -----; 00301-00001-00 John is over 45, males age 16-26

S165 SPRINGER John 1800 M-32 50 216; -----; 00010-21010-00 John is 26-45

S165 SPRINGER Dennis 1800 M-32 50 222; ---; 20010-40010-00 Dennis is 26-45

S165 SPRINGER William 1800 M-32 50 223; 30010-10101-00 William is 26-45

There is another thought; William and male being found 1790 being over the age of 16 could William here and the male being John here. This would fit as being other son of John Springer of Delaware. The John who is over 45 could be the male living with William in 1790 Census? More questions with no answer..

Could these men below be brothers?

Dennis

John

William

Hezekiak

Now the John Springer with 3 males could this man be John Springer of Delaware? I found that John Springer of Delaware was said to have died 1798 but I also found Church record in Georgia that says, That Rev John Springer preached is last sermon in 1801

Being in Georgia in 1801 and in SC in 1800 census could this be the name man. John would have been over 45. There is possibly but I am not sure. I have records that John while Georgia being mention in South Carolina. Read on

The John Springer in Georgia is said be from Delaware and so does the Delaware family Archivists. Many of John Springer descendents of Georgia have joined the DAR with him. J E Springer on the Delaware Springer family names the members that where in Revolutionary War. John Springer; America Archives, Volume 18 page 72 (This is a published record, and will be in the DAR and SAR and other libraries) John Springer was in the Maryland Muster Rolls appearing as a private soldier in a company of Militia from Frederick County, Middle District, raised by Captain Valentine Creager. (Note from Janet; Thomas Moore that I know how is in Virginia is from Shenandoah Co. VA)(Note from Janet: Frederick County Virginia and Frederick County Maryland line next to each other. Dennis Springer of Frederick County, Virginia was in many court records there and his son Dennis Springer was in services there. Is it possibly that John Springer might have know Dennis Springer family. Thought so much of him to name is son Dennis. Dennis Springer of Frederick County, Virginia also had a son name Uriah could this be where John Springer got this name of another son name Uriah?)

Springer of the South

The chapter on Arron Springer mentions land records of the Springers. I only have two pages from this book. I WOULD LIKE THE COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL LAND RECORDS THAT I MENTION BELOW.

A State land Grant in the name of Ezekiel Springer was entered Jan 2 1792 and one for John Springer was entered on Feb 6, 1786. Ezekiel Springer is said to have move his family to Barren County, Kentucky. Ezekiel Springer is thought to be Hezekiak Springer 1 male over 16,4 males under 16 in the 1790 Census.

William Springer of 1790/1800 Census is said to have married Amy and with their child, Thomas move to Lawrence County, Tennessee. They are listed in 1820 Census in Lawrence by 1850 counties lines move and they are now found in Giles. William 83 and Amie 77 both still living. Williams will is on file in Union County, SC Book L page 240 Oct 6 1812 (must be when will was made). States love and affection which I have and beare towards children (to wit) Thomas Springer, Nelley Springer, Rutha Springer, and Easter Springer.. Per Janet if William Springer is the one in 1800 Census where are the other two sons that mention in the Census??

Another household show in 1790 Union County Census is Dennis Springer, no wife and no children (Per Janet: I wonder if author saw the same census that I post above for Dennis is list with a wife but no children for the just married.) We can discount Dennis as being Arron father but however he could be a relative. NOW READ THIS

[John Springer, father of Thomas Springer of Conway, AR, is reported in Goodspeed {Faulkner C o., AR} to have died in Mississippi in 1864 - perhaps Tishomingo County, though that is not r ecorded. Upon her death in about 1867 he remarried and later moved to Arkan sas.]

Now what I am wondering where did Dennis Springer get this land to sale? Did he inherit from a family member?

In the book UNION COUNTY,SOUTH CAROLINA MINUTES OF THE COUNTY COURT 1785-1795

2. Mary Ann JOHNSTON born on Dec 4 1826 in Lawrence County, Tennessee. She died on May 2 1895 in San Lucas, Monterey County, California and was buried in May 1895 in San Lucas, Monterey County, California.

The grand-daughter of Mary Ann Johnston (Lillian Gibson Winter) wrote a letter in 1964 to her nieces and nephews. That letter is quoted below: "VIVID RECOLLECTIONS OF WHAT I WAS TOLD AND OF WHAT I LEARNED BY BEING A MEMBER OF THE GIBSON FAMILY". My grandfather, Joseph Gibson, was born in 1813 in Kingston, Arkansas. He married, but his wife passed on leaving him with several children, my father, George L Gibson, being one of the youngest. My grandmother, Mary Ann Johnston, was born in Tennessee, was married there and came to Kingston to live. Her husband, Mr. James Madison Basham passed on and left her with four small children, my mother being the oldest. These two families were united by the marriage of my father's father and my mother's mother. When my father was 16 years old, the Civil War broke out, and he was called to the Southern Army, since he lived in the South. He served four years, and on June 8, 1865 received his parole at Shreveport, Louisiana. (May I express my gratitude here for the fact that my father was never critical of the North, not bitter, but always taught us that Lincoln was right and was the greatest President that we ever had; and that if Lincoln had lived, the condition of the South would have been very different.) When he returned home, he married my mother and settled in a small cottage near my grandfather's home. This home was a large two story log house built with a large open porch, both sides open, separating the living quarters from the kitchen, each section having its huge fireplace. My mother had five children. After the first two, James and Thomas were born in the small cottage, for some reason the family moved to Texas, where Lola was born. After they came back to the cottage I was born. Grandmother broke her arm so the family moved into the big log house with my grandfather, where Joe was born. A little clear stream flowed across the property, near the house. At that time refrigeration was unknown, but a spring house, with two floors, was built over a bubbling spring. The lower part had no floor. Our milk, vegetables, and all perishable foods were put in closed containers and lowered into the cold water for preservation. On the second floor were stored sacks of wheat and shelled corn, to be hauled to Kingston later for grinding into flour and meal. The sugar cane was fed between two wooden rollers and the juice coming from it was boiled down and formed our sorghum, unrefined syrup. There were rows of gooseberries, strawberry beds, sweet potatoes, fruit trees and vegetables. Several black walnut trees and chinquapins, a form of chestnut, provided us with nuts. Our meat was almost entirely pork and chicken, which we raised. A smoke house was built, the pork was cut up into hams and smaller pieces, with plenty of sausage. Plenty of lard was made also for the year's uses. All was smoked and seasoned by wood fires. We lived bountifully, buying only coffee, condiments, sugar and some other small articles. The little stream had a black slate bed. A substance like chalk washed down from the mountains. It was soft, brilliant in color, red, yellow, etc; and we children loved to gather there and draw pictures on the dry spots of slate. My mother's brother, John P Basham, lived in Carroll County, Missouri. His wifes mother was very frail and so was my grandmother, Mary Ann Johnston, who was troubled with a broken arm. My grandfather, Joseph Gibson, had two daughters who had married and gone to California by wagon train. They urged us to come also, so, when Joe Gibson was one month old, thirty relatives gathered together, met in Purdy, Missouri, chartered a railroad car, bringing nothing but personal belongings and started for California. As a child of six, I was excited about going to California, and my only regret in leaving Arkansas was when I climbed up into the big wagon to go to Purdy with my precious kitten in my arms, I was told that I would have to part with her, as she couldn't be taken on the trip. That was very hard to bear. Our family of five children, James, Thomas, Lola, Joseph and myself with our parents and grandparents, making a family of nine, finally reached the Indian Valley, Monterey County, California, where one of grandfather's daughters lived. We bought a home there and stayed a few years. We older children trudged two and one-half miles through the dust to the county school. We moved from there to San Felipe and Gilroy near Hollister. Here Lola began to prepare to be a teacher, and went to San Jose for a period to study. After she received her certificate she worked as an assistant to the principal at San Felipe. She also taught in Hames Valley, Monterey County. After I received my certificate we both taught in San Lucas in their two room school, she having the upper grades.

He was a Confederate soldier and died in a Union prison in Lafayette, Indiana. He was truly an unknown soldier, likely entered along with others who like him had suffered 20 days and nights of unparalleled exposure, sleeping out in the rain several days before reaching Donelson, spending some four days at Donelson, also without shelter and three days and nights on an open boat enroute to Cairo, Illinois. One prisoner is quoted as saying "our suffering continued until we reached Indianapolis. This exposure sowed the seeds of death in the vitals of many of us." The healthy prisoners, among them likely William's brother Samuel C were all transferred to Camp Morton in Indianapolis on March 16, 1862. William K did not make the trip.

The last entry in this bible was in 1866 and most of it was done in a beautiful script. I assume that the person responsible for these entries died or moved at that time. I have always thought that Calvin Hamm b. 1820 or his wife Millian (Milly Ann) Springer is the writer and I know they left Izard Co., Arkansas and returned to McNairy Co., Tenn. about that time.

I have copy of the following books on the family: "DELAWARE BIBLE RECORDS VOL 6" by LU VERNE V. HALL,A "CALENDAR OF DELWARE WILLS NEW CASTLE COUNTY 1682-1800" by HISTORICAL RESEARCH , 1693 CENSUS OF SWEDEN CHURCH on the Charles Springer and family and List of Springer in the DAR.
