Methods used
Adding 2 numbers (up to 10)
There are two methods:
1. We look at the sum and take out the numbers on our fingers and count them. Example 7+3= Take out 7 fingers and then take out 3 and count.
or
2 Use the number line. Example 7+3= Put your finger on the number 7 on the number line and jump 3. The answer is 10. (The character I used to jump forward is Mr. Bunny.)
Subtracting 2 numbers (biggest number being 10)
There are two methods:
1. We look at the sum and take out the first number on our fingers. Look at the second number and close fingers accordingly. Now count how many fingers are left. Write the answer.
or
2. Use the number line. Example 5 - 1= Put your finger on the number 5 on the number line and move back 1. The answer is 4. (The character I used to move back is Mr. Crab.)
Missing Number
I told the story that there was a paper with a
sum written on it. A goat passed by and ate a
piece of this paper. Now I have a missing number.
What I need to do first is to frighten away the goat so
I close all my fingers (fist). Example: 2 + ___ =
6. Put fists in front of you. Call out the
number 2 and simultaneously do the movement as if you're
chasing the goat away. Then continue by saying the
numbers whilst opening the fingers until you reach 6.
Check how many fingers are open. Write the answer
on the line, in this case 4.
