Using liquid acrylics, Nashville-based artist Jane Cherry Case creates brilliantly colored gestural paintings using a variety of techniques. "I generally use a brush but I like adding texture with the tip of the paint bottle, a stick, a toothbrush or whatever is lying around the studio," says Case. "Sometimes I wet the paper and let the paint flow or spread into it."
She often finds herself working on three of four paintings at the same time-putting the finishing touches on one while the others are drying. The hearts are part of a series that Case began in January 1993. "Before that I did a lot of very detailed pen and ink drawings of children's themes and old houses which were somewhat Victorian in style," says Case. "The Hearts are really a shift to a much more contemporary image."

Case was born in Oklahoma City. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, with a B. A. in Commercial Art in 1976. Her work has been included in a number of exhibits and arts festivals throughout the U. S. Case's art is regularly featured in national magazines such as Vitality
