For Papa

You came to me as a gift
from the most unlikely place.
You left so weak and frail
now you're gone without a trace.

We had you over sixteen years
filled with sweetness and delight.
You were such a presence in our lives
and we miss you day and night.

I long to see your soft green eyes
and the tip of white on your tail,
and the way you looked up when you wanted milk
and you'd get it, without fail.

I expect to see you by my feet
when it's feeding time each night.
I still look for you, and your brothers;
without you, nothing seems right.

I hope some day we'll all be together
and I'll see your sweet little face.
Until then I'll hold on to the memories...
'til we meet in a happier place.

The Little Milk Dance

There was a young cat who came from France
who learned to do a little "milk dance".
He'd look up to the left,
and then to the right,
then tip over a little
almost every night.

He wanted it now, it couldn't be later.
He'd follow you right to the refridgerator.
He'd poke his head in
and he'd look all around,
till he saw what he wanted...
Then he'd make that sound.

He'd call out "milk" so purrfectly,
There was nothing else that sound could be.
So you'd take out his bowl
and pour some right in.
Then he'd lap it right up
and lay down with a grin.

He's no longer here to dance for me.
But in my heart I still can see,
Him waiting oh so patiently...
I miss you so, Sweet Pea.
