Disciplinary Actions on Veterinarians
taken by the
New York State Office of Professional Discipline
January 1994 through March 1998
The following actions were taken by the New York State Office of Professional Discipline (OPD) against veterinarians during the period listed above. During that period of time, only 27 official "actions" were taken. Any complaints filed with that office that did NOT result in an "action" do not become public information. According to a letter I received from OPD, "…please note that we can not take disciplinary action based upon single acts of negligence or incompetence". So, single acts of negligence or incompetence are overlooked by their department. It takes several acts of negligence or incompetence to warrant disciplinary action. However, when I questioned a supervisor about this, I was told that they can take action for a single act of "Gross Negligence".
