Jan Attwood is based in Sydney, Australia. A portfolio of her current paintings can be viewed at her studio. Background Jan has drawn and painted for most of her life. As a child in Adelaide, any spare time would be spent doing something creative. She feels very fortunate to have inherited more than her share of artistic genes. The family moved to Newcastle during Jan's teenage years, where her formal training in art techniques began. Although tempted to become a commercial artist, there were pressures to pursue other qualifications. After university studies, she embarked on a career as a business psychologist in Sydney but still found time for silver jewellery making, silk screening and enamelling, as well as painting abstract landscapes. 1996 was a turning point for Jan and time to re-focus and return to her first love - painting. She feels that it is a privilege to be allowed to translate what she sees into a painting, that others may also enjoy. Current Focus Jan has studied in Sydney with the Royal Art Society, Ku-ring-gai Art Centre and Ethel Street Fine Art Gallery. She is inspired by the challenges of mastering watercolour technique and capturing the effects of light, colour and the beauty of nature on paper. Although she still works in pencil, pen and ink, Jan is excited by the variety of effects watercolour can create, as shown in her flower studies, still life, seascapes and landscapes. She enjoys entering competitions, exhibiting and undertaking commissions for those who share her passion for watercolour. |
