It is a good idea to get your system information on a paper incase you ever have a computer problem where you need to refer to this. Right click on the my computer icon and select proprerties from the context menu.Click on the divice manager tab, then the print button, then click on Ok. This will give you a print of information about your hardware, IRQ4s ports, memory usage, devicess and drivers.                                                                                  

SYS Edit

From the start button, choose the run command. In the command line type SYSEDIT. This will launch the system Configuration Editor which will allow you to edit the following files: PROTOCOL.INI?, CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT.

Bitmap as Icon

This is how to make individual icolns for bitmaps look like a iconsof bitmap. To make the change : Start REGEDIT.EXE->HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> PAINT PICTURE ->DEFAULTICON  and modify or create the string value Default from this key to equal %1 .

At DOS prompt (Windows Dos or normal Dos)   type mem/p/c and it will tell you where your conventional and upper memory is.

Clear the Run Menu

Open registry editor Go to HYKEY_CURRENT_USER->SOFTWARE->MICROSOFT->WINDOWS->CURRENT VERSION->EXPLORE->RunMRU. Delete everything in the right pane EXCEPT THE VALUE NAMED DEFAULT. Restart Windows and the run menu will be empty.

Expanded Wildcards in DOS

MS-DOS in Windows 95/98 now allows for expanded use of the * wildcards symbol in that you can specify the wildcard before as well as after text to search for. For DIR *T*.TXT will display all.txt filles with a "T" in their names.
