19. GERMANY 2001
Wir Liebe Lebt.performed by Michelle
A cursory glance at the Whoops, Dragovic guest book proves that my all time favourite ESC song is the 1975 German entry Ein Lied Kann Eine Brucke Sein by Joy Fleming. Imagine my near delight, then, that Joy may have been making a return to the Europantheon a mere 26 years after her first (with two of her mates along for the ride) with a Swiss/German effort called Power of Trust.
That was, until Power of Trust came second in this year's German final, and I'm left wondering if Ms Fleming still looks like Ethel Mermen in the aftermath of being dragged non-forwards through a hedge.
That's all by the by now I'm afraid, as our attentions must turn to the second Michelle appearing in Copenhagen. It's another ballad from a girlie (in a notably girlie-free year) which has received mixed reactions again. Oh, won't someone make their minds up?
I've seen a picture of Michelle though, and she's an aesthetically pleasing blonde maiden who will no doubt get votes from Austria. If the Austrians were in it, that is - hah!
HEARD-IT: It's suggested she sounds like Minnie Mouse singing a typical Euroballad. And do you know, she does.
AND ON THAT NOTE, WE'LL PREDICT: 12 points from Turkey - so not last.
