20. ESTONIA 2001
Everybody.performed by Tanel Padar &
Dave Penton
Stars from every constellation of the Eurovision universe scrambled through strategically placed wormholes to aid Estonia in their selection for Copenhagen at Eurolaul 2001. The glitterati included Linda Martin ('92 winner for Ireland), Colin Berry (the bloke who reads out the UK scores each year, thus making him a prominent British authority on popular music), Marlain - who finished second-to-last for Cyprus in 1999 and Anders Berglund. Anders used to wield the baton for all Swedish entrants, but is feeling slightly under-employed with the abolishment of the orchestra, so welcomes any opportunity to get his face about these days.
The
clear winner was Everybody, performed by Tanel Padar and
Dave Penton. Not being a native of the country in question, and
not having the funds to stay on-line throughout the whole webcast
of the final, I can only assume that Ms Martin said something
along the lines of, "Oh, all the performers were just
brilliant, it's so difficult to pick a winner - and I know what's
it like being up there, just let me tell you!"
Colin Berry no doubt informed the audience which part of the set
he was sitting in front of before delivering his results, whereas
Marlain probably covered herself in glitter and shrieked a bit.
Anyway, that's Estonia.
HEARD-IT: Forget what I wrote after the final (if you read it). I've just decided I dislike this song intensely. Like an act that would be rejected on Phoenix Nights on the grounds that it's causing the audience pain, it needs consigning to the darkest corners of despair.
AND ON THAT NOTE WE'LL PREDICT: Still Top 10. If it wins, well, I don't know...
