Jami rushed thru the hotel on the way to her room, tears streaming down her face. She turned and ran straight into Tasha. "I'm so sorry! I wasn't watching where I was going!" she struggled to hold in the sobs that were threatening to escape. "Jami, what's wrong?" tasha asked her in a friendly voice. "Oh, I am...so....stupid! I'm a...fool!" Jami hiccuped. "Come with me and you can tell me what happened."

Jami followed Tasha into her room and told her the whole story. "wow, that is pretty bad". was Tasha's only response. "he's never going to forgive me! I've lost him forever! All because I'm to supid to look past my past! What am I going to do?" Jami sobbed. Tasha looked at her, her eyes crinkled in thought. "Maybe he just needs time. You know how guys are with their pride. Right now his pride is hurt. Let him have time to heal his broken pride." was her only suggestion. Jami sniffled loudly. "oh Tasha! I love him so much that it hurts! I don't think I can live without him!"

***

Tasha crept steadily towards the hotel door. It was close to midnight, yet, somehow she knew that the occupants of the room were still awake. She tapped lightly on the door, still unsure if she was doing the right thing. Seconds later Jeff answered the door, dressed in just a pair of jean shorts. Tasha groaned silently, to herself, thinking, 'Why does he have to look so dman good when I'm trying to do that good and honorable thing.' "Jeff, can I speak to you privately for a minute. Out here, in the hall." Jeff nodded. He stepped out into the hall, shutting the door behind him.

"What?" he asked sullenly. Tasha gulped, "Uh, Jeff, I came to talk to you about Jami." Jeff turned and placed a hand on the doorknob. "I don't want to talk about Jami." Tasha grabbed his arm and turned him towards her. "I don't care. If you don't want to talk, then fine, don't talk. But you are going to listen." Jeff looked at her, suprised, but then he nodded. "I won't try and explain Jami to you, because quite honestly, Jami can't explain Jami. But I can explain what may be part of the reason why she is acting the way she is." Jeff looked at her with a doubtful look on his face.

Tasha blushed slightly at the thoughts running thru her head. Her eyes traveled up his body and all she could think was, 'Wow, he'd look great naked.'. "Are you going to talk or stare?" Jeff gently teased. Tasha shook herself out of her trance.

"Uh, I'm curious. Have you noticed a very light colored tatoo on Jami's right shoulder?" she asked him and Jeff nodded, "yeah, it looks like a scar." Tasha nodded, "Well, see, it is. Um...Okay, Austin was just in a depression, he was crazy. I guess that's the only word for it. What I am about to tell you, Jami has never told anyone. not even me. The reason I know about it is because Austin confessed it all to me." Tasha took a deep breath before continuing, "That 'tatoo' on her shoulder is a scar. Only she tells people it's a tatoo. One night when Austin was really pissed at her, he went crazy. He had a wood burning kit and he used it to burn his initials into her shoulder. A way of branding her, he said. He literally held her down and did it to her. He told her that now, she would always be imperfect. That she wouldn't be deserving of any man. I think that's what has happened to her. She feels she doesn't deserve you so she messes it up. Not on a conscious level, of course."

Jeff looked at her, dazed. "Wow." "Yeah, so her problems run pretty deep. Not just emotional scars but physical ones too." Tasha replied. "Okay, thanks for telling me all of this. It does explain a lot. But I still think I should Back off for awhile. Let her have her space to figure all this stuff out." Jeff thought outloud. Tasha nodded, "If you think that's best." she replied before leaving Jeff standing there.
