Shane rubbed his jaw from his
place on the floor, glaring up at Kali. "What the fuck was that
for?" he asked. "You are suppose to stay the hell away from
Jaylynn. When she tells you to leave her alone, leave her
alone." Kali growled in a low voice.
Jaylynn watched the exchange
through wide eyes that darted back and forth between the two of
them. Fear hindered her body and shame that she wasn't the one
standing up for herself kept her mouth shut.
"I was just apologizing." Shane
muttered, slowly getting to his feet. "I don't give a rat's ass
what you were doing. You were talking to her, near her...and
that's a big no-no." Kali told him, her voice staying at a
measured tone.
"Mind your own damn business. This
is between Jaylynn and myself." Shane warned, grabbing Jaylynn's
arm around her bruised bicep. Jaylynn winced and Kali shoved
Shane back hard. He released his grip on Jaylynn's arm and Kali
pushed Jaylynn behind her.
"You think you're so tough...well,
let's see how you are against someone who won't stand there and
take it. Against someone who will fight back. Come on tough
guy." Kali taunted. "You have no idea how much I'd like to hit
you, you little bitch. But, I won't. Jaylynn...we'll finish this
later." Shane said before stalking off.
"Are you okay?" kali asked,
noticing a weird look on Jaylynn's face. "I didn't just stand
there and take it. I fought back." Jaylynn whispered.
"I didn't mean to imply that you
stood there and took it." Kali began but Jaylynn cut her off,
her chin tilting in a determined look. A look that Kali hadn't
seen on her friends face for awhile. "I almost got away. I
fought him off enough to get away. But he came back after me and
I just couldn't get away. You can see my bruises but his are
hidden."
"I'm sorry." Kali said, wondering
why she hadn't heard about Jaylynn fighting back before this.
"Does everyone think that I just stood there meekly, and took
his beating on me?" Jaylynn asked.
"well, I, uh, I don't know. I
didn't hear the part about you fighting back but that might just
be me." Kali told her honestly.
Before the conversation could
continue, Shane Helms stepped out into the hallway. "hey, we
were wondering where you two had went...is something wrong?" he
asked, noticing the tension in the air between the two friends.
"Well, we had a little run-in..."
Kali began but Jaylynn cut her off. "Just discussing business
stuff. Everything is great." Jaylynn smiled brightly. Kali gave
her an odd look but didn't say anything.
"Is that true?" Shane asked Kali.
"What, are you saying you don't believe me?" Jaylynn asked
angrily.
"No, that's not it. I mean,
um...we better get back to the party." Shane said, knowing that
anything he said would just bury him in a hole. "Yes we should."
Jaylynn said, moving to walk past him. Shane stuck an arm out to
hold her by the waist as Kali slipped out of the hallway.
"You would tell me if something
was wrong, wouldn't you?" Shane asked. Jaylynn refused to look
at him. "I need to get back ot the party." She said pushing past
him.
