| Jamestown Hardware always suggests that you turn ALL power off when working on ANY electrical device. Failure to do so could lead to a severe electrical shock that could cause DEATH! Electricity is not something to take lightly (pardon the pun). An electrical shock of less than 10 amps can cause death. Even if you believe the power has been turned off, work cautiously. A good practice is to use the one hand technique. The "One Hand Technique" is exactly as it sounds. When working on any electrical appliance, use only one hand. This prevents your body from being a complete circuit in case of a short. If there is a short, you will still receive a shock, but by using only one hand, this will prevent the electricity from going through your heart. Damage to the heart is the most common means of death from electric shock. The best safety measure that you could use is COMMON SENSE. If you are not 100% sure that you would be able to complete an electrical project, DON'T. Hire a professional electrical contractor. |
