When larger format negs like 4x5 or 8x10 are contact
printed onto a larger sheet of paper the image sits on a pitch black background.
This effect can be quite dramatic in changing the aesthetic of the image
by placing a different enphasis on the tonal relationships of the image.
The affect can also be simulated with any format but takes some careful
setting up.
One method is to cut two black cardboard mats. |
