THE MONK 36
Proudly built by craftsman in Nova Scotia following a tradition handed down from generation to
generation, the Monk 36 trawler yacht can truly be called the Cruiser's Cruiser. Strong and
seaworthy, she is built with the same dedication to safety and reliability as the sea going Cape Island
fishing boats built on Cape Sable Island for more than a hundred years. Each Monk 36 is sea-trialed
over the open ocean from Nova Scotia to the North Sea Yachts docks in New Jersey before final
commissioning and delivery to its new owner. Our customers have every right to have confidence
that their new boat is already proven long-range, off shore performer when they take possession at
our docks. On the crossing from Nova Scotia, four to eight foot seas are not uncommon and
fourteen to eighteen footers are not unusual.

The Monk 36 design from conception was to engineer a cruising yacht that was seaworthy,
economical to operate, spacious and comfortable for long range cruising and with the idea of
simplified owner maintenance always in mind. All of the equipment on board is furnished by
American manufacturers or suppliers and, as a result, are easily serviceable or replaceable if
necessary anywhere you wish to cruise. Cruising speeds average ten knots with her standard 220 h.p.
Cummins diesel, fuel consumption is approximately five gallons per hour which translates into a
range exceeding six hundred miles. With larger engine options she will deliver greater cruising speeds
on her semi displacement hull
With her high freeboard forward in
combination with her flared bow and molded in spray rails she is an extremely dry boat when running into head sea
The interior design makes the maximum use of space that is available in a thirty-six foot
yacht without encroaching on the wide walk-around non skid decks so important to both
safety and handling. Storage space is unusually plentiful even when compared with other
yachts in larger size ranges. For example, there are nine feet of hanging lockers in the master
cabin alone, plus drawers and lockers galore
