A convention breaking novel. Postamble is written in the first person in the form of a pseudo-diary spanning approximately a year and a half. It describes events the protagonist experiences after the cataclysm he simply refers to as IT. Written as an ordinary person might write, the diary becomes a simple log of events with all the grammar and spelling errors left in tact as would be found in any personal journal. Unusual though it might be for a published work, it gives the reader the feel of experiencing the thoughts and events that this survivor is experiencing as he relives and mourns his past life through memories and anecdotes while he records the adventure he is living. The feel of the novel is that of reading the diary of this survivor and getting drawn into his tale. |

Postamble takes place in West Michigan, centered about the greater Grand Rapids area and along the Lake Michigan Shore. Other locations of interest take the reader to Baldwin, Michigan and up to the Straits of Mackinac, as well as Kenosha, Wisconsin and Chicago. Having been raised in West Michigan and calling Rockford home and with property near Baldwin, James E. Townshend describes these locales in detail. Anyone familiar with these areas will feel as though they are part of the story. |
