WX WEATHER
Preflight planning begins here where we have access to
various weather processors around the country. Every pilot must get certain information
pertaining to a flight before he may aviate away from an airport. FAR 91.103 " All
available information pertaining to the flight" including weather, fuel requirements,
alternative airports, traffic delays, performance data, airport information and any other
available information. Personal assessment: What are the demands of the flight? Adequate rest and nutrition is essential to pilot performance. Weather brings with it added complexities to flight which must be analyzed carefully with the performance data of the aircraft and the skill level of the pilot to determine if a flight can be safely completed. Weather Briefing: An approved FAA "standard weather briefing" is indisputably superior (1-800-WX-BRIEF) in providing current information about weather, airport status, and Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS). Service is free if it is for flight planning purposes. It has been estimated to cost the federal gov't about $15. per briefing. Before obtaining a briefing most pilots get an overview of the weather from TV or radio and now the web. Most weather data on the internet is static and is a representation of the weather at the time of posting to the net. Pay close attention to the time the data was obtained and also the time format used PST, PSDT, CST, GMT, etc., it may be several hours old and require interpolation (estimate based on facts). |
