"Seeing the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway had always been a dream for me. This past October I was able to see that dream realised when my parents took me to New York and gave me tickets for the Majestic Theatre. I was lucky enough on that day to see James Romick in the role of the Phantom. He was the best Phantom I had ever heard and yes, even better than Michael Crawford. There were many points within the play where I simply closed my eyes and listened to the beauty of his voice and the amazing notes he hit. The final scene in the Phantom's lair was so touching, and so well done that I did cry. James Romick impressed me so that I don't believe I will ever hear a better Phantom of the Opera. Thank you for creating this site so that I have a place to support the BEST Phantom." (Erin)

"Jim is an incredibly talented performer.  I have been lucky enough to see him perform just about all the male roles in The Phantom of the Opera, and he always finds a way to stand out.  On top of all that, he's a genuinely nice guy!" (Heather)

"... Hugh Panaro was out... and was replaced by James Romick. Romick has an amazing history in the show, having (it seems) played pratically every male role in the show over the years, having gotten his Broadway debut as a swing in 1990. What a ways he's come! He was a fantastic Phantom, having the vocal power when needed, and the much needed soft high voice." (Corey)

"Not since Kevin Gray played the Phantom have I heard a more beautiful-voiced, passionate and tortured Phantom as James Romick. I saw him just weeks ago (1/18/03), and he was brilliant. If you decide to go to the Majestic to see the 'Phantom' pray you get to see this understudy." (Nikki Z.)

"Hands down I would pick James Romick in Phantom of the Opera [as the best understudy on Broadway] ...his performance of the Phantom is just so moving...that and the has one of the most amazing voices!! Both quality and range are perfect and amazing!"

"Attended December 16, 2002 performance at the Majestic Theatre in NYC. James was the Phantom...absolutely wonderful voice and dramatic portrayal. I was disappointed when announced the usual 'star' wasn't going to perform...but James was every bit the part. I've listened to Michael Crawford's CD's of Phantom many times... James is just as good in my opinion. A real treat...especially since he is from Youngstown OH and I get there often on work...hope the folks are proud of him...he was just terrific!" (Steven F.)

"Jim Romick, who is a swing with the show, has done the role when Howard is away, and [in my opinion] is the best Phantom I have ever seen. He has an incredible voice and brings great emotion and vulnerability to the role."

"James Romick...played the Jeweller; I got to hear his splendid voice for just one brief moment, on 'His lordship sure would die of shock'  He seemed to stand out among the other Fops, his tone too clear and perfect for a chorus-member." (Heather S.)

"I saw him do the role this February and agree that he was outstanding. I was sorry to miss McGillin, but I was really impressed with Romick's performance. Of the Phantoms I have seen, he probably ranks second to Michael Crawford."

"I have seen James Romick perform and...he is absolutely fantastic! If you are lucky enough to see him, you will know what I mean! He blows all of the others out of the water."

"Saw Mr. Romick's Phantom again last night. The man gets better with each performance. And since the first one I saw was awesome, it is hard to believe, but he does! If you go to the Majestic and are lucky enough to see him, I promise you will not be disappointed. What he does with the final lair scene is breathtaking!!!!!!!"

"I am still hearing James Romick's hysterical evil laughter (he stepped in for Howard McGillin that night and did a FANTASTIC job of it, too!)"
