| "Yeah in 7th and 8th. I was in his so called "gang". They were the coolest guys around. All the girls liked us." " And you left that why?" Steve was surprised. " Because they were mean to my cousin. Apparently, she wasn't "cool" enough to be around me. So, they gave me a choice, be mean to my cousin or leave, so I left." " But you could have had it all." Steve pointed out. " Yeah well it would have been at my cousin's expence. I would rather be enemies with Lee then have family hate me." Jake answered. " Sometimes there are times I know you're crazy." Steve shook his head. " Would you want your cousin to hate you? The only cousin who cares about you?" Jake barked at Steve. " Sorry I didn't know it was that way Jake." Steve saw he better get off the subject. Tears were welling up in Jake's eyes. They walked off to english together. " Urgh! This class is so long. I don't want to be here!" Lilly complained. " We know Lilly, you want to be in science, inches away from Lee." Ashley shook her head and walked over to Jake. She gave him a hug. " What's up cuz?" she asked. " Oh, I talked to Lee today." He never rose his head. " Oh I am sorry Jake. But I mean try having a girlfriend who is in love with him. This is so hard! I mean you should have just done it. And then later you could have explained why. I would have listened. It is all my fault that you two aren't friends. But Jake. . . Why did you stike up for me?" She finally asked him. " Because Ash, you are the only cousin I have that really cares about me. The rest don't care. I write letters they never write back." He went back to working. Ashley went back to her desk before the teacher came back. " So what's up with Jake?" Sara asked. " Another Lee run-in." She quickly got back to work. " Yeah I was there! Why don't those two get along?" Lilly finally decided to talk. " Cause Lee kicked Jake out of his group cause Jake wouldn't make fun of me. HEY. . . ." Ashley smiled and turned towards Lilly. " I didn't do it Ash, I didn't do it!" Lilly became very worried. " Lilly, doll, you could make it good between Jake and Lee. I mean Lee DOES like you." Lilly smiled at what Ashley said. Sara laughed. They all laughed knowing they could help Jake. |
