| Author's Warning Now I must warn you: I hate, loathe, and despise this castle, so I'm going to get you through it with the bare minimum: the Big Key, the Fire Rod, a Heart Container, and the third crystal. If you want a thorough walk-through of this castle, get someone else's. If you are bound and determined to explore the castle to the maximum, I'll warn you to watch out for the like-likes in the woods: just like in Ocarina of Time, they steal various objects, the most important of which being your shield. To get your stuff back, kill the like-like (your sword will do). Going in the Correct Entrance First, you must enter the castle through the correct entrance, so go into the woods by where the Fortune Teller's house is in Light World. Go straight, then left (don't go in that hole right there). Pick up the bush because you can't get to it with your sword, and continue north. You will see an entrance where the Thief's Hideout was in Light World and another that is hidden under a square of bushes. Do not go in either. Go northwest under the rib cage, then go south under another one. Go in the entrance you come upon. Getting the Big Key In here are five enemies, but you can only see four immediately. You know how to kill jellyfish by now. You'll just have to keep hitting the Gibdos (mummies) with your sword -- it takes a while. The fifth enemy is a wallmaster (a hand that comes down from the ceiling); if it grabs you, you will return to the last entrance you came into in this castle, with all the enemies reset, of course. Unlike in Ocarina of Time, you can't permanently kill the wallmaster; it just keeps coming back. Once all the enemies except him are dead, pick up the middle pot to reveal a switch. Push or pull the eastern-most statue onto it, but make sure you pull it the last bit so you can get into the northern door. The wallmaster will be in this room too, but kill everything else (don't pick up the pot because there is a Moon Pearl-negator under it) and get the Big Key. Getting the Fire Rod Go back into the first room and leave. Go back under the ribs until you find the other entrance that, in Light World, was the Thief's Hideout. Go east when you enter and step on the star tiles to change the floor. Open the chest, then go back to where the star tiles were. Get as far east as you can, still standing where the tiles were, face north, and hookshot across the hole. Bomb open the crack on the west wall and go through. Pull the lever (don't worry about the pot unless you need magic) and get the Fire Rod. Entering the Boss' Lair Use the Magic Mirror to return to the entrance and go outside. Go back through the ribs to the first entrance you used. Immediately turn left, keep going that way, and then go south the first chance you get. Now you're back in the woods, so go north under the western rib cage. Stand at the southern end of the long skull, facing it, and burn it down with your Fire Rod. The Boss' Lair Before entering, be sure you have at least one bottle of Magic Potion and at least one faerie. Enter the door and first go down the ladder. Now watch out because you cannot see where you're going so don't be afraid of losing a couple of hearts. Go east until you cannot go any further, then go north, east, north, west, north (watch out for the fireball), east, north, west, north, west, north, east, and through the door. Immediately go up the ladder and south. When you reach the southern wall, watch out for the Gibdos and Moon Pearl-negator, and go through the door on the west wall. In here, get the key, then use the Magic Mirror to warp back to the entrance. Go north and unlock the door. Be careful: the floor switches. First, step on the stars in front of you, keep going north, then west, then south on the star tile by the lamp, north, then east. Now step on the four star tiles that are closer to the east, then the other one by the other lamp, then go through the door. There are Gibdos and a wallmaster in here. Either kill the Gibdos with your Fire Rod, then get the magic in pots, or get them with your sword (though it's major pain in the butt, I recommend the latter; it may take longer, but it doesn't waste precious magic you need very badly for the boss). You can also conserve magic by lighting all the lamps (except the northern one) with your Lamp since it uses less magic than the Fire Rod. Light the lamps quickly because they are timed, and if you do not get them the first time, the door will shut and you will have have to start over. In the next room, watch out for the Moon Pearl-negator. BE SURE you have Magic Potion and a faerie now! Jump down the hole to meet a boss who is a match for Ganon himself. The Boss of Skull Woods: Mothula Maybe it's just because I'm a klutz, but this boss is easier said than done. If it is of any comfort to you, I have played this game at least twenty times and have only beaten this boss without dying three or four times, max. The hard part is not actually the boss, but the room she's in. The entire floor is a series of conveyor belts, so you you have to struggle against these constantly, since they are always changing direciton. Also, the spikes on the walls come flying at you periodically, so there's the added fun of dodging those. The boss, to make matters worse, spits triple fireballs at you, so jump around those too. To actually hurt Mothula, you must first hit her with your Fire Rod until you are completely out of magic. Then refill with your Green or Blue Potion and repeat. She flies rather erratically, so really try hard to not miss her. Once you are dried up on magic, use your sword on her. Hopefully, you'll kill her eventually, but then you'll have to get yourself out of the castle (Magic Mirror) and out of the woods. Take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back for beating one heck of a castle. |
