| Getting Started: Getting In The Castle After opening the treasure chest with A to get the Lamp, start by leaving your house and going north to the castle. Once at the gate, turn right and follow the path. Pick up the bush surrounded by white tiles, and hop in the hole that it reveals. Get the sword and shield from your uncle, and proceed to the door at the end of this room. Kill the guards with your sword by pushing B. Now, as obvious as this may sound, remember that you must face enemies to do any damage to them. You would be surprised by the number of people that think they can kill anything by randomly pushing B. Break open the pots to receive some magic and the chest to get five rupees. Now you can use your Lamp and other magical items you pick up along the way. Push Y to use whatever weapon is selected in the top left corner of your screen (push Start to select it). Go up the ladder and into the garden. Now go through the big northern door to enter the castle. First Floor This room will be referred to as the Main Room of the castle; you will pass through it several times during the entire game. Go through the door on the right, and then north into the next room. Here, go north then to the door on the left. If you need hearts, there are some along the top railing. In the next room, go down the stairwell on the northern wall. Basement Kill the guard in here and get the Map (view it with X) in the chest. Now the guards in the next room are pretty stupid. You can swipe at them (from the back, preferably, but the front works, too) and knock them off the edge; just be careful not to fall off the edge yourself, buecause you will lose a heart. Keep going past the guards until you reach a long passageway along the southern wall. In the next screen, immediately climb up the ladder, go south across the "bridge," west, and north passing by the green guards. In the next room, kill the guard, go through the eastern door, kill this guard, get the Blue Boomerang, and select it on your items screen (press Start). Go back into the previous room and climb the ladder. Pass throught he next room, and the next. The Boss of Hyrule Castle: Ball and Chain Guard In here kill the green guard first, then you face the boss: a ball and chain guard. This guy is not too difficult to tame if you know what you are doing. Just hit him with your boomerang (this in and of itself does not hurt him, it just stuns him for a tiny amount of time), run up and swipe him once with your sword, then back off while he swings his ball around. Do this about eight times, and you get the Big Key. Release the Princess, and don't forget the rupees in the treasure chest. Escape from Hyrule Castle to the Sanctuary Zelda will follow you like a shadow until you reach the Sanctuary. It's rather annoying, but it's best to simply ignore her. Now pass through the entire castle until you reach the Main Room. Here's a tip for getting back through the basement: where you went on the ledge to avoid the green guards, do the same coming back, but don't go down the ladder after you pass them. Instead, turn right at the fork on the northern wall and continue on this path until you are forced to jump off. This will help you to skirt most of the guards. Once you are in the Main Room, go up the ladder north of you and through the first door you come to. BEFORE ENTERING, read this: two guards will be in here. If you just continue to walk north and do not stop to fight, they will ignore you unitl you are up the ladder (hearts are few at this point in the game; I'm trying to save you some grief here, if you are inexperieced). Continure north until you reach the ornamental shelf. Push it right, then go through the door. In the first room, stick to the right wall and youw ill soon find the door. In the next room, I'll leave you to find it yourself. In the room after that, a key is ina chest in the eastern wing. The door is north of where you came in. Now you are in the sewers. The trick is to stay in the water as much as possible because the rats cannot get to you there. The door in here is on the far western wall. In the next room, stick to the wall on Link's right, and youw ill soon find the door. In here, kill the rats until one gives you a key. Use the key to open the door. Now it's light again! In here, go north until you reach the gray blocks. Stand between the two in front of the second one from the left. Push it forward, then continue on. In the next room, just get through the door quickly; the pots are empty and the rats can only take away hearts. In the next room, pull the switch on the right by grasping it with A (hold it down) and walking south. If you are just dying to know, the switch on the left releases seven or eight snakes. Still want to pull it? Now go through the door. Congratulations; you have made it to the Sanctuary. Get the Heart Container from the chest and pat yourself on the back. |
