Getting in the Castle
You are now standing on top of the Pyramid of Power. If you ever turn off your game while in Dark World, this is where it will start you. The first thing you should notice about Dark World is that it is almost exactly the same as Light World: whether it's a building, a landmark, anything, you can bet your money that it will have a shadowy reflection in Dark World. Before you get started, be sure you have at least 110 rupees (if you don't, mow the grass). Get Piece of Heart #19. In the grassy area south of the Pyramid, the western-most tree always contains a faerie. Head east out of this screen and as far south as you can. You can't get rid of the little pink pegs yet, so go east, just as if you were going to Sahasrahla's house. Follow the mud path past the statue that looks suspiciously like Yoda, and north where the arrow in the ground points. In the shrubbery, you will sort of be able to see yourself and the path. Head out the other side and continue west. Do not enter the big shrubbery entrance at the first chance, but go around the outside wall (the rock one, not the bushes) and east at the first chance you get. Go into the big shrubbery entrance right in front of you. Make your way out of the eastern side and you will find that Kiki the monkey is following you. Give him ten rupees. Head east, then north. If you get hurt by an enemy, Kiki will leave and you will have to go back to the big shrubbery and pay him ten more rupees. Go to the front door of the castle, pay Kiki one hundred rupees to open it (is this Darwin's idea of a cruel joke?), and go inside the castle.

Getting the Big Key
Many aspects of this Castle are similar to its Light World counterpart, so if you get lost think back to that. After entering, click the left switch and go through that door. Go through the next door, pick up the bottom left pot, click the switch, and open the treasure chest for a key. Now go back up to the first room (you will have to open the door with a switch that is under the top left pot in the second room). Go into the room on the right this time, though the second door, and step on the gold warping tile. Listen to Zelda -- or not -- then bash open the wall at the bottom. At the end of this passageway, bash into another crack. Now target practice: shoot all the mouse things, but be careful because the red ones will shoot fireballs at you when you face each other. The best way to kill it is to shoot in its general direction, then walk left or right (depending on which way you need it to go to get hit by the Arrow) and catch the Arrow in its side. In the next room, open the chest and bomb open both cracks. Get the key and faeries. Go all the way back to the room to which you originally warped and warp back. Now push the white statue over and go into the middle door. Avoid the turtles (you can't kill them yet) and go east and north. Push over the eastern block and continue on through the door. Open the treasure chest and jump over the pit (just walk forward). Climb the ladder and go to the door on the left. Cross the bridge (quickly! It falls out from under you. I've found the best way is to pick up a pot, carry it, throw it at the first baddy, dodge the second one, and haul butt to safe ground). Go through the door on the right, open the chest, and go downstairs. Dodge the pink anti-faeries, get ruppees, arrows, and a key. Now come back upstairs and go back across the bridge and into the pit room again. Jump into the middle, kill everything, and go to your left. Push the block to get out, climb up the ladder, and exit the room. You'll notice a crack in the floor as you continue south. Bomb it open and jump down. First unlock the door on the top ledge and go through to get the Big Key.

To the Boss
Now jump back down off the ledge, avoid flying skulls and turtles, and get a key by stepping on the switch and revealing a chest. Step on the warping tile, then go back through the middle door, to the pathway on the right, and back into the falling bridge room. After crossing the bridge, go through the door on the left and through the maze to bomb open a crack in the eastern wall. Open the big chest to get the Magic Hammer. Go back into the pit room and jump onto the middle platform. Change the southern switch from pink to blue with your Boomerang and jump to your right. Break all the pots on the right side of the door and push the top right statue up in the corner onto the switch; the left pots hold hearts. Go through the door and kill more mouse. CAUTION: as soon as you enter the next room, there will be a spike grazing your noes, so just stand in the doorway until it is gone. Click the switch to make the barriers go down, then go over to the blue cyclops statue and shoot its eye with an arrow. After the wall is finished extending, go down the stairs. Hit the gophers with your Hammer. Now you can kill the turtles: pound the floor near them to make them flip over like a beetle on its back. Two swipes of your sword will finish them off. However, be careful because if you don't kill them the first time, they will speed up. Stand on the left side of the pink barriers in the ground and use your boomerang to hit the switch so you can enter the next room. Get your Hammer out and kill the turtle. The next room has six turtles, so you might want to quickly light a lamp so you can see where they are and what you're doing. Go into the next room and push the block at 1:30 in and step on the warping tile. Kill the next four turtles (this is it -- get what supplies you need now!) and go through the door.

The Boss of the Palace of Darkness: Helmasaur King
There are several ways to kill this boss. You can either hit him on the face with the Hammer or Bombs to rid him of his mask (Bombs are less accurate, but using the Hammer puts you in range of his fireballs -- take your pick). When his tial starts to swish around quickly, move in close to his face so when the tail whips around, you will remain untouched. Once his mask is gone, he moves very quickly, so watch out. Shoot the green spot on his foreheadwith about twelve Arrows to claim another Heart Container and the first maiden.
