Atari 2600
The Atari 2600 was considered revolutionary for it's time. Released in 1977 it popularized the microprocessor based hardware and games contained on what we know as ROM catridges. It brought about classic hits such as PacMan and Pitfall. It came packaged with two different paddles and two different joysticks.
NES
The classic nintendo is what really brought video games to the forefront of society. Known as the Nintendo Entertainment System, the NES. Originally created as the Famicom in Japn in 1983. It wouldn't be brought to the United States until 1985 and 1986. It would revolutionize the video game industry by allowing third-party developers to produce and distibute their games for Nintendo. This would become a standard business model for companies moving forward. It usually came packaged with one controller.
Super Nintendo
The Super Nintendo was Nintendo's answer to Sega's Genesis console. The SNES introduced advanced 16-bit graphics and sound that surpassed its predecessor and blew away the competition. It was released in Japan in 1990 and then in North America in 1991. The Super Nintendo continues to be a very big collectors item to most gamers and collectors. It was popular enough that they just released a small version call the SNES Classic which came preloaded with several ROMS of older games for those who love to live in the past. This console saw the reinvention of Mario with cleaner textures. It also updated models to several other beloved characters such as Donkey Kong and Mega Man.
Sega Genesis
Sega's Genesis console also known as the Mega drive was another well known 16-bit gaming console. It was released in 1988 in Japan and not until 1989 in North America. While the initial launch didn't go as well in Japan because of the success of the Super Nintendo it did take off in North America nad several other countries. It had amazing hits such as the Sonic the Hedgehog series and introduced a more violent generation of video games like the Mortal Kombat series. Thanks to the latter game series it led Sega to create the Videogame Rating Council which was the predecessor of the ESRB that we know of now.
