Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Shiv Ling:
The symbol for Lord Shiva the the God of all Dances.

About the Dances:
1. The Dances taught are the Standard Ballroom and Latin American Dances.
2. Standard implies the dances approved and codified/standardized by the world dance councils, for which documentation is available, and which are used for international dance competitions.
3. Ballroom Section consists of Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz.
4. Latin American Section consists of Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, Jive and Cha Cha Cha.
5. Ballroom dances are more like ‘walking around with a partner’ and needs vast spaces.
6. Latin American dances compared to Ballroom need smaller spaces, has a lot of body movements, and generally all the stepping is on the toes/ball of the foot.
7. All the dances are more or less related and so general information of each of the dances at the start is tremendously helpful and advisable.
8. The medium pace dances are taught first, like the Jive, Cha Cha Cha, Foxtrot (Social/Rhythm), which are also the dances used most of the time for a formal/semi-formal occasions.

The Class:
9. The classes are twice a week with one hour each session; and the various courses are designed for three months.
10. If the course is not completed, which is not advisable though, yet one is not at a total loss.
11. No classes are carried forward if missed; however if the teacher misses a class it would be compensated with additional one.
12. The age group is between 16 and 80 years of age. Younger children would be considered if a group is formed, all with the almost the same age.

Attire/Costume:
13. The attire for the class is wearing any comfortable clothing of ones choice and is presentable to all inside and outside of the class as well.
14. The only thing necessary in the attire is that one should preferably wear shoes with leather soles and a separate heel. The size/height of heel is however a personal convenience/choice. Sandals is all right to wear, however if slippers are worn then it should be secured to the foot with a lace/ribbon so that the slippers do not slip off and the slipper lifts as the heel is lifted off the floor

Teaching the Dances:
15. All instructions would be in English.
16. Sequences will be taught. But also the figures/components making up the sequence will be stressed upon.

Who can learn:
17. Any one who can walk can dance or learn to dance these dances. However there is a small catch here; the ones should be able to jog lightly in the case of the very young and the very old.
18. The pattern of the class will not help one to either put on or lose body weight. The weight part is taken care of by ones constitution of the body. If the constitution “feels” one should reduce weight, then one will.
19. If one comes alone there is no problem. However if one comes along with a dancing partner the process/learning would be much faster and more efficient. In fact larger the mixed-sex-friend circle that joins the class together, the better is the learning and progress.

Exercise:
20. This is an overall exercise in harmony for all the parts of the body and mind.
21. Its advantages to name a few are that it helps in carriage of self, introspection, hug-therapy, stress “reliever”, and many more.
My recommendations however would be:
For Men: Shirt with long/full sleeves, a pair of trousers and leather-soled shoes.
For Ladies: Any dress, except a pair of trousers or it’s like, and a pair of leather-soled shoes or sandals with strap.
Note: The shoes with the laces are a better option for all.

22. No special exercises is necessary, however at the class from time to time some exercises will be advised will enhance the understanding, performance and learning.

Examination:
23. At the end of a class an “examination” would be held, which is an exclusive Ballroom Ball with students from different schools as well, to check and understand ones progress for primarily ones self.

Teaching Aids:
24. Music cassettes/audio compact discs would also be available for sale at the class.
25. The notes could be made available.
26. The fees (course fees/monthly fees/first time registration fees) and is payable in advance.
27. Video film will be available soon.

Registration:
28. Information required during the registration is:
Name, Surname, Sex, Date of Birth, Residential and office/Institution Address, Telephone number, Email address, Hobbies, Educational Qualification, Aim/aspiration (Career), Passport size Photograph, etc.
29. All above information is strictly confidential.
