Rumba: Basic Step

"Rock a bye baby, on the tree top ..."
One of the most common movements wiht a child, all over the world.

The counts here are from 1 to 4. The counts of 4 and 1 are taken on the same foot. So step for the count of 4 and pause there for 1. Then continue with the mark time from the count of 2. As a result for a set the count of 1 would come on one foot and then the other for the next set.

Perform the First Exercise with the counts of 4 and 1 coming on the foot and moving randomly all around.

After this continue serially as given below. If one stops in between start again from the very beginning.

1. Start mark-time on the spot, with the counts of 4 and 1 on the same foot.

2. For 4 take a step to the side and then staying in this new position and do the rest of the steps.

3. For the count of 2 step back and for 3 step forward coming back to earlier position.

For the counts of 2 and 3 one would be performing a rock action, backwards and forwards.

4. Same as above except that the movements for the counts of 2 and 3 is reversed.

For the counts of 2 and 3 one would be performing a rock action, forwards and backwards.

5. The left foot always moves forward and the right foot always moves back for the count of 2, and for the count of 3 the next foot moves to the earlier position where the counts of 4 and 1 were taken.

Through out the exercise one should be performing the mark time by consciously flexing the knee and weight should be only on one foot without the break in rhythm of counts.
