Samba: Basic Sequence with Partner: Part 5

The first basic sequence.
THE DIRECTIONS (Generally when facing):
A:
Centre.
B: Diagonal to Centre.
C: LOD (Line of Dance).
D: Diagonal to Wall.
E: Wall.
F: Diagonal to Wall against the LOD.
G: Backing the LOD or facing against the LOD.
H: Diagonal to Centre against the LOD.

Note: In the diagram above the dancer is facing and is square in the direction C.

Note:
1. Refer to picture DIRECTIONS above.
2. When the man is dancing the figures from serial numbers 2 to 15, the lady is dancing the counter part that the man dances from serial numbers 16 to 29; and vice versa is applicable for the lady.

0. Start:
Man faces and is square to direction C and lady to direction G. Mans weight is on the Right foot and for the lady on her Left foot. The general overall progress is in the direction A, henceforth.

1. Forward Basic:
Start:
Man is facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Man moves forward with the Left foot and lady backward with the Right foot.
End: Man is facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Body weight is on Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).

2. Whisk:
Start:
Man facing in direction C and lady in direction G. Both move side ways in the direction E, with the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).
End: In promenade position, Man is facing direction B, and lady in direction H. Body weight is on Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).

3. Promenade Samba Walk:
Start: In promenade position, Man is facing direction B, and lady in direction H. Both move in the direction A, with Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).
End: In promenade position, Man is facing direction B, and lady in direction H. Body weight is on Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).

4. Side Samba Walk:
Start: In promenade position, Man is facing direction B, and lady in direction H. For the first step both move in the direction A, with the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady); and then for the next step (count &) move away towards the direction G (man) and direction C (lady).
End: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. On the last step when almost closing the feet get a turn, man to the right and lady to her left, to face each other and end with weight on the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).

5. Front Kick:
Start
: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Both move forward towards each other and slightly to the side for the kick, with the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).
End: With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Weight is on the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).

6. Backward Basic:
Start:
With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Both move away from each other with the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).
End: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction B, and lady in direction H. Weight is on the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady). On the last step, turn to the left (man) and to the right (lady) to come into promenade position. Also during this figure man manoeuvres the lady such that the lady is in slight advance position to the man with respect to movement towards direction A.

7. Bota Foga:
Start:
Man begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction B, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction H. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Left foot, facing in direction H, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction A. Lady ends with weight on the Right foot, and facing in direction B.

8. Bota Foga:
Start:
Man begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction H, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction B. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Right foot, facing in direction B, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction A. Lady ends with weight on the Left foot, and facing in direction H.

9. Volta:
Start:
 Man begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction B, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction H. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Left foot, facing in direction H, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction A. Lady ends with weight on the Right foot, and facing in direction B.

10. Bota Fogo:
Start:
Man begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction H, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction B. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Right foot, facing in direction B, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction A. Lady ends with weight on the Left foot, and facing in direction H.

11. Bota Fogo:
Start:
Man begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction B, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction H. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady.
End: Man ends on the Left foot, facing in direction H, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction A. Lady ends with weight on the Right foot, and facing in direction B.

12. Volta:
Start:
 Man begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction H, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction B. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Right foot, facing in direction C, and the lady’s position is now directly in the front with a large gap. Lady ends with weight on the Left foot, and facing in direction G.

13. Front Kick:
Start
: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G, and resume double hand hold. Weight is on the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady). Both move forward towards each other and slightly to the side for the kick.
End: With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Weight is on the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).

14. Backward Basic:
Start:
With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Weight is on the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).
End: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction B, and lady in direction H. Weight is on the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).

15. 1 2 (Foot Change):
Start:
Man begins with the Left foot, and lady with her Right foot. This is a simple transfer of weight from foot to foot for two counts, to come closer into regular hold and normal alignment.
End: Man ends with weight on the Right foot and lady on the Left foot.

Note: From here on it is the mirror-image of the above sequence, the progression is in the direction E; and in the sequence above wherever the promenade position was used, will now be replaced by the counter promenade position and vice versa.

16. Whisk:
Start: Man facing in direction C and lady in direction G. Both move side ways in the direction A, with the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).
End: In counter promenade position, Man is facing direction D, and lady in direction F. Body weight is on Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).

17. Counter Promenade Samba Walk:
Start: In counter promenade position, Man is facing direction D, and lady in direction F. Both move in the direction E, with Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).
End: In counter promenade position, Man is facing direction D, and lady in direction F. Body weight is on Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).

18. Side Samba Walk:
Start: In counter promenade position, Man is facing direction D, and lady in direction F. For the first step both move in the direction E, with the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady); and then for the next step (count &) move away towards the direction G (man) and direction C (lady).
End: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. On the last step when almost closing the feet get a turn, man to the right and lady to her left, to face each other and end with weight on the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).

19. Front Kick:
Start
: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Both move forward towards each other and slightly to the side for the kick, with the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).
End: With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Weight is on the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).

20. Backward Basic:
Start:
With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Both move away from each other with the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).
End:
With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction D, and lady in direction F. Weight is on the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady). On the last step, turn to the right (man) and to the left (lady) to come into counter promenade position. Also during this figure man manoeuvres the lady such that the lady is in slight advance position to the man with respect to movement towards direction E.

21. Bota Fogo:
Start:
Man begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction D, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction F. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Right foot, facing in direction F, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction E. Lady ends with weight on the Left foot, and facing in direction D.

22. Bota Fogo:
Start:
Man begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction F, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction D. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Left foot, facing in direction D, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction E. Lady ends with weight on the Right foot, and facing in direction F.

23. Volta:
Start:
 Man begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction D, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction F. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Right foot, facing in direction F, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction E. Lady ends with weight on the Left foot, and facing in direction D.

24. Bota Fogo:
Start:
Man begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction F, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction D. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End:
Man ends on the Left foot, facing in direction D, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction E. Lady ends with weight on the Right foot, and facing in direction F.

25. Bota Fogo:
Start:
Man begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction D, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction F. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady.
End:
Man ends on the Right foot, facing in direction F, and the lady’s position is in advance (leading) in the direction E. Lady ends with weight on the Left foot, and facing in direction D.

26. Volta:
Start:
 Man begins with the Left foot, moving in the direction F, from behind the lady. The Lady begins with the Right foot, moving in the direction D. The hold with the Right hand (man) and Left hand (lady) is released and the man guides the lady with the other hand, which is being held above the lady. Maintain this hold, alignment and hand position till the end of the figure.
End: Man ends on the Left, facing in direction C, and the lady’s position is now directly in the front with a large gap. Lady ends with weight on the Right foot, and facing in direction G.

27. Front Kick:
Start
: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G, and resume double hand hold. Both move forward towards each other and slightly to the side for the kick, with the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).
End: With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. Weight is on the Right foot (man) and Left foot (lady).

28. Backward Basic:
Start:
With a smaller gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction C, and lady in direction G. begin with the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).
End: With a larger gap between the partners, man is now facing in direction B, and lady in direction H. Weight is on the Left foot (man) and Right foot (lady).
