The first basic sequence. |
Introduction:
The advantages of this system are many folds:
1. The way one recites/sings is the way the movements will occur.
2. Proving that such dancing has already been introduced to all subconsciously.
3. Some people have a problem understanding the “beat”; this method helps
instilling one the knowledge of rhythm consciously.
4. Using one basic rhythm to cater for the various basics of a few dances.
5. To show the interdependency of movement of the various dances.
6. Learning is usually more enjoyable with some things learned as a child.
7. It becomes easier to let free the child within, and which in turn helps in
enjoying the learning process and the dances.
8. At the very core of such dances is the reliving the childhood and
introspection. Thus this pattern using the nursery rhymes helps greatly.
9. Most of the music written is for the first stanza. The same music is then
repeated for all other stanzas of a nursery rhyme, although the
words/meaning/contents of the others may be different. This principle helps
greatly to in a dance too. It is more important to know a few basic steps, which
when done with a different feel, at different angles, seem different not only to
ones self but also to the dancing partner and others.
10. This pattern cuts across all barriers such as sex, age and status.
11. In absence of dance teacher one can still get help from a music teacher or
any one else who has some basic information of music, especially the beats and
rhythm.
12. Also it is a lovely pattern/aid for the teachers to teach in a convincing
manner the bare basics.
1. Nursery Rhyme
The knowledge of the following nursery rhymes is necessary.
(a) Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
(b) Jack and Jill
To clap with the hands, along with the
singing/reciting of the nursery rhyme. One should get four claps for every line.
It is important to note that the time interval between every clap should remain
the same, and the singing/reciting should be rhythmic and synchronous with the
claps.
Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star
Twinkle twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill went up the hill,
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
Note:
In the table below the highlighted/emboldened words/syllables is precisely
where/when the clap/tap/step/beat occur. The other syllables/words come between
the beats, i.e. immediately after or before the beat.
