Basic Sequence: Cha Cha Cha

The first basic sequence.

Please Note: This is a sequel to General: Elixir

Brief Note:
1. The basic rhythm for this dance is “2, 3, Cha, Cha, 1;”.
2. When done continuously the counts will be “2, 3, Cha, Cha, 1; 2, 3, Cha, Cha, 1; 2…”
3. In this dance and also in Rumba the dance commences on the count 2, the count coming earlier is 1 for which there is no foot movement, at least when starting this dance. Thus the count 1 is a “pause”. So the counts from the start will be: “1; 2, 3, Cha, Cha, 1; 2, 3, Cha, Cha, 1; 2, 3…”
4. The counts “Cha, Cha, 1” can be replaced with “4, &, 1”. It is a personal convenience, however the former pattern is advisable initially.
5. The first two steps of the Chasse, “Cha Cha” or “4, &”, take equal time of the one beat. The last step of the Chasse, the count 1 takes the complete time of one beat, just as in the case of the steps for the counts 2, and 3.
6. In short the music for this dance has the time 4/4, which mean that there are four beats to a bar. The last beat 4, being broken into two for which the “Cha, Cha” step is done.

Forward Basic/(Forward Rock Step):
1. Starting position: Stand with the feet apart with the body weight on the Right foot and the Left knee relaxed and only the Left toes touching the floor.
2. For the count 1: There is no feet movement. Simply move the Right hip further to the Right with both feet still remaining in contact the floor.
3. For count 2: Move the Left foot to the side towards the Right foot and curve it to the front to take a small step forward directly in front of the Right foot. The Right foot is retained at the back in the same place with the knees relaxed and only the toes in contact with the floor.
4. For count 3: Transfer the body weight back to the Right foot. Retain the Left foot in place with the knee relaxed and only the toes in contact with the floor.
5. For the count Cha (first) or 4: The Left foot is moved back towards the Right foot and then curved to the side to take a big but comfortable step to the Left side. The Right foot toes remain in contact with the floor.
6. For the count Cha (Second) or &: Move the Right foot closer to the Left foot and take the body weight on to it. The Left foot relaxes and only the toes remain in contact.
7. For the count 1: Move the Left foot to the side taking a small step to the side. This small step is less than half the step taken for the count of Cha (first) or serial number 5 above.
8. For the count 2: Step with the Right foot back to continue with the backward basic.

Backward Basic/(Backward Rock Step):
1. Starting position: Stand with the feet apart with the body weight on the Left foot and the Right knee relaxed and only the Right toes touching the floor.
2. For the count 1: There is no feet movement. Simply move the Left hip further to the Left with both feet still remaining in contact the floor.
3. For count 2: Move the Right foot to the side towards the Left foot and curve it to the back to take a small step backward directly behind the Left foot. The Left foot is retained in the same place with the knees relaxed and only the toes in contact with the floor.
4. For count 3: Transfer the body weight back to the Left foot. Retain the Right foot in place with the knee relaxed and only the toes in contact with the floor.
5. For the count Cha (first) or 4: The Right foot is moved forward and towards the Left foot and then curved to the side to take a big but comfortable step to the right. The Left foot toes remain in contact with the floor with the knee relaxed.
6. For the count Cha (Second) or &: Move the Left foot closer to the Right foot and take the body weight on to it. The Right foot relaxes and only the toes remain in contact.
7. For the count 1: Move the Right foot to the side taking a small step to the side. This small step is less than half the step taken for the count of Cha (first) or serial number 5 above.
8. For the count 2: Step with the Left foot forward to continue with the forward basic.
