| Lieutenant BElanna Torres walked down the mostly empty corridors of Voyager. The lights were down low to not only conserve energy, but to simulate nighttime. BElanna was working through her figures on the PADD once again, she knew they were right, but she was ordered by Captain Janeway to wake up Seven of Nine and check the calculations again and that frustrated BElanna to no end. When BElanna reached the doors to cargo bay two she, stopped just before triggering it to open, to take a deep breath then let it out with a sigh, and walked into the cargo bay. The first thing BElanna saw was that the children werent there. Seven and Voyager had rescued four children from a Borg cube that was damaged. Now, Seven was their guardian of sorts and BElanna had to laugh at the idea at first, what would a walking talking computer know about kids, but BElanna had to concede that Seven was quite a capable guardian and cared for the kids as if they were her own. BElanna knew that Seven loved them even though she had never said anything or for that matter really shown that she did until one-day BElanna had been fixing a conduit that was right by one of the ventilation shaves and heard Seven tucking them in. After their Regeneration Cycle started BElanna watched as Seven kissed each one on the forehead and said I love you to them before she left to continue with what it was she was going to do. BElanna had never spoken about what she saw that night to anyone. It was something that BElanna just tucked away in her heart and from that time on things started to change between them. BElanna no longer thought of Seven as a drone they still fought and never seemed to agree. BElanna didnt know where the kids were and was about to contact the Captain but then remembered that Nelix had said that Naomi and the other children were going to have a Camp out on the Holodeck tonight so BElanna shook her head and walked over to the controls to Sevens Alcove. BElanna looked up into Sevens face, Damn she's beautiful, she thought to herself, but then shook the thought from her head and punched in the code to bring Seven out of her regeneration. Seven opened her eyes knowing she had not completed her cycle and was about to ask why when she spotted BElanna leaning against the Alcoves control panel with her arms crossed her over her chest. Seven Sighed inwardly, Lieutenant Torres confused her more that anyone else on Voyager. She could never figure out why every time she and BElanna would get into and argument she could never maintain control over her anger and annoyance. No one else on board could annoy her as much as BElanna always did. Seven looked at the slightly grinning half-Klingon and was about to ask what was going on when BElanna spoke. Good Morning Seven, how did you sleep? BElanna said knowing it would annoy the ex-drone. Seven had to resist the urge to roll her eyes at the question and at the term of sleeping, she didnt sleep but she let it go not wanting to get into a debate with the half-Klingon. What is it you needed Lieutenant? Seven asked, not wanting to drag this out longer that she had to. BElanna looked back at Seven and said, The Captain wants us to go back over the shield modifications and make sure the calculations are correct before we enter into the next system. BElanna reached back behind where she was leaning on the control panel and picked up the PADD she had been working on while on her way to cargo bay two. Looking down at it she punched some of the keys bringing up the report and holding it out for Seven to take. Seven stepped off the dais of her Alcove and took the out held PADD looking over its contents. Seven knew that the calculation were correct BElanna was many things, but inattentive to detail she was not. Seven knew that BElanna had not been sleeping much either these passed few days for she and Seven had been working on these new modification and had just finished them. They are sound Lieutenant. Seven had said as she handed the PADD back to Torres. Yes I know that Seven, but BElanna sighed as she took the PADD from Sevens hand. The Captain wants us to look over the actual shields. BElanna finished as she let her hand with the PADD fall against her thigh with a sigh. Seven knew BElanna was tired she could see it in her eyes. She didnt want to argue or fight she just wanted to go look at the Shields and then go and get some sleep. Seven sighed inwardly and said, Then lets go and take a look and then turn in the report. She too was feeling weary from the past weeks of not regenerating regularly. BElanna looked up into Sevens vividly blue eyes with a start. BElanna was not expecting Seven to just relent and go with her to check on the shields out without, stating that there was no need to recheck something that was already in perfect working order, but was grateful she didnt. Thank you. BElanna whispered softly as she passed the blond ex-drone. BElanna felt Seven come up along side her when she felt herself being lifted and thrown across the cargo bay by a powerful explosion and then blackness took her. Pain was the first thing she felt. Her body felt as though it was on fire, her head was throbbing, and her lungs burned with each breath she drew. She opened her eyes and looked out into the fuzzy haze, not sure if the haze was her eyes or what the Cargo Bay really looked like right now. She remembered the explosion, being thrown, and the pain as she hit the far bulkhead. BElanna looked around a bit but didnt see Seven anywhere taking a deep breath and regretting it as soon as it was done, as she went into a coughing fit from the smoke that was still in the bay, and then from the sharp pain that racked her side. Broken rips. BElanna mused as she picked herself up off the floor peering into the smoked haze cargo bay then she called Sevens name with no response. BElannas hearts began beating faster with fear making her voice tremble as she called Sevens name out with more urgency. BElanna was moving spilled crates and tubs of foodstuff and equipment as she moved across the bay looking and calling for Seven to answer her call. Oh Kahlass! Seven Where are you? BElanna yelled with tears running down her face. Then she saw her, half covered by a carte. BElanna pushed the carte off the prone form and put her shaking hand on Sevens neck pressing her fingers on her pulse point praying that she would feel anything. She calmed her breathing and let her body feel the blessed rhythm under her fingertips. It was irregular but it was there. BElanna put her arms under Sevens limp form and lifted her into her own lap and hit her combadge. Medical Emergency Two to Transport to Sickbay. She called to the computer as she hugged the still form she was cradling in her arms closer to her as she felt the transporter take her. I swear what is it with this crew and their need to put themselves in the The Doctor was saying to the crewman sitting before him getting his arm reset after a bad fall on a skiing program, When he heard the Medical Emergency Transport called for and then turn to find Lieutenant BElanna Torres cradling the limp form of Seven of Nine, coming into focus on the floor. The Doctor grabbed the nearest medical scanner and was at BElannas side asking, What the hell happened? as BElanna rose from the floor still cradling Sevens limp from in her arms. The Doctor looked into BElannas stark eyes and just nodded and said, Put her on the biobed here. He pointed to the nearest bed knowing that BElanna was in no condition to talk right now, he didnt even know how she was standing let alone carrying Sevens heavy body, but he was not going to argue with her after seeing that look in her eyes. BElanna looked into the Doctors eyes pleading as she laid Sevens still form on the bed but did not letting go of her hand. The Doctor set to work on Seven, not even questioning BElannas presence at the ex-drones side. He repaired everything he could and was putting the last healing pack on the former Borgs right side, where a big gash had been blown out, when the door to sickbay hissed opened and the rushing from of the Captain came in. Report! Janeway called as she came in to sickbay. Captain Kathryn Janeway got the report that there had been an explosion inside of Cargo Bay Two while in her ready room going over some reports and waiting for the final check on the shielding modifications to be completed. Janeway had heard Ensign Harry Kim report that the fire suppressers were not working and that a team would have to be sent to take care of the fire when Ensign Kim looked up and right into his Captains eyes and said that two life signs were inside and that one of them was very weak. Before Janeway had been able to get the command to beam them out of there out, Ensign Smithfield informs the Captain that the Emergency Transporter has transported them both to sickbay. The Doctor turned and looked at the Captain after he finished putting the past healing pack on Seven. Seven is stable but its up to her body and her nanoprobes now. There is little else I can do. The Doctor turned back and looked at BElannas face she looked as though she was about to collapse but the look in her eyes was of being totally lost. The Doctor quickly walked around the Biobed Seven was now resting on and then asked, Lieutenant? as he motioned to the next bed over and raised his eye brows thinking she was going to refuse, but then all she did was let go of Sevens hand and back up sitting down on the other bed still watching Sevens prone form. The Doctor began his scan and saw that she had some shrapnel in her upper back and in her right thigh, some damage to her lungs from the smoke, a broken arm, three cracked rims, and a mild concussion. Over all it looked like Seven had taken the brunt of the blast and that could be why BElanna was not very responsive to her surroundings. Captain Janeway had looked at BElanna and saw the look of being utterly lost and walked around the bed and put her hand on BElannas shoulder while the Doctor was finishing his scan. From her vantage point she could see that BElanna was bleeding from her back and thigh and asked, BElanna, what happened in there? BElanna looked into her Captains eyes and then looked back at Sevens prone form and said, I dont know Captain. We were just about to walk out of the Cargo Bay and then it just happened. No warning Something just exploded and Seven she just I couldnt find her I think it was the alcove I just dont know. Just then tears began to wrack the young Klingons body then the blackness began to take her again. Im sorry Lieutenant but you need to relax. The Doctor said as he lowered BElanna to the bed after giving her a sedative. BElanna looked at the Doctor and then her Captains and whispered, Im sorry I just couldnt find her. As her eyes shut and she fell asleep. |
