Writer's Block
It's a writer's worst nightmare, when you are sitting there staring a blank page, and you have a deadline to make. You sit there and try to think of what can you do to get you thoughts back on your writing. Well I hope that these ideas will help you out.
Make a schedule your writing; set aside some time when you do your writing free from distraction. Have several writing projects going on at one time. If you get burned out on one, just switch to another and more then often something totally new comes up in between. Try to be your main character for an hour, or if you have the time a day. Be outrageous, think of the most daring act your character might make, and the affects that it might have and see where this leads. Take a catnap and relax, stressing about it will only make it worse. Do a crossword puzzle or a word search, who knows a word just may spark something. Listen to the lyrics some of your favorite songs, what stories are going on here, how could you develop them into a piece? Sketch out the cover of you book, or your main character. Sit in a restaurant with your notebook, keep your ears open for snippets of conversation and use them to develop a scene or plot. Turn off your computer screen and just type what comes to you, put yourself in your character(s) minds and visualize what they are feeling and then write without looking. Get together with a friend or writer and have a brainstorming session, take turns at writing a scene or developing a character. Take a break from what you're working on and just write freely what's on your mind right now. Look at some of your other stories that you have wrote. Try writing in a totally different setting other than what you usually do, like outdoors or on the bus. Go to the park or a zoo just to get a change of scenery. It works miracles Keep a notebook of thought and ideas that come to you everyday. Use them to add to your story, and if you dont like it later take it out. Write on a bright piece of paper. Go for a walk, forget about your writing, just observe, walk around the mall or gallery, watch the people, the way they interact, think about what they might do for a living, then go home and write about it Why not write the ending first, or even start in the middle? Let the story tell itself Try writing in a totally different style or genre, something you wouldn't usually use, this might just open up a new thread of creativity you didn't know you had. Surround yourself with pictures, or smells of the area you are writing about. Lets just say a ranch, have up pictures of barns, & the ranch animals. For the smell a piece of leather, or even saddle soap. tropical island? go buy some exotic flowers, or even some fruit like a coconut, & papaya Do creative writing exercises.
