EverDragon Glossary

Birthname:
The name that is given to a new hatchling dragon. Often hatchlings know their own name at hatching though there is no stigmatism attached if the do not. This is the name carried by the youngling dragon until they make their NamingFlight.

Bondmate:
1/2 of a lifebond, used by either half to refer to the other. For example. Jaedell/StormRunner - Jaedell's (woodelf ranger) bondmate is the Dragon StormRunner and the reverse is true. StormRunner's (Dragon) bondmate is the woodelf ranger Jaedell

BondingFlight:
The second DragonFlight made by a dragon where in they find a bondmate. This is also done if a dragon chooses to take a new bondmate after loosing a bondmate to death

Common Name:
This is the public name of a dragon. This name is often given to them by the EverDragons of their hearth after they return from their NamingFlight. This is an acknowledgement of their change in maturity and status. Often these names are a reference to a particular personality trait, deed or habit of the dragon. Sometimes a portion of their Birthname is used as a part of their Common name if it s particularly apt.

DragonFriend:
The dragon half of a lifebond

DragonFlight:
A pilgrimage by a dragon. The first of which is there Naming Flight

EverDragon:
The elf, dwarf or human half of a lifebond

Hearth:
The communities of dragon, EverDragons and children. Found in High remote places in the mountains. There are always mountain caves in these communities where the dragons den. Most have a natural beginning but are often enlarged to suit the needs of the dragons and their bondmates.

All hearths have high mountain valleys where the humans, elves and dwarves can farm or build green houses though most of the humans/demi-humans that are bonded live in the caves with the dragons. Those humans or demi-humans born to EverDragon bloodlines but are not bonded themselves live in the valleys, with rare exceptions.

LifeBond:
The bond that exists between dragon and everdragon is for life. Dragons will not take another bondmate unless their bondmates die. Everdragons who loose a bondmate or DragonFriend often suicide if friends and family can not stop them long enough for them to pass through the grief and the physical pain left by the death of their DragonFriend. Older Everdragons have been known to die of heart attacks at the exact moment their DragonFriend dies.

Mating Flight:
Exactly what it sounds like. Because dragons and their bondmates are so closely tied this flight is always made away from the dragons home hearth and bondmate because their human/demi-human bondmates can not withstand Dragon passion when in close proximity. Often an EverDragon will take a lover or mate during their bondmates mating flights.

Naming Flight:
The pilgrimage or DragonFlight a young dragon makes between the ages of
40 55 (human years)
8 11 (dragon years) during which they receive their Truename

Truename:
The secret name a dragon gives only to those he/she trusts implicitly such as their bondmate.
