HSING YI: LIANG YI
Boxing Principles of:
Moving/Rest
Up/Down
Stretching/Contracting
Advancing/Retreating

The body has four branches and hundreds of bones. Stretching is Yang, contracting is Yin. Both hands embrace each other in going upward toward the head. The left advances first, the two hands seperate slowly. The left hand pushes forward, while the right onedraws back. Both hands move as if tearing cotton. The left hand stretches out straight, with the highest point being even with the level of the mouth.

The thumb is at the level of the heart. The arm seems straight, but is not. It seems to be bent, but is not. The section of the arm, from the wrist to the elbow, sholdd be held horizontally. The right hand, draws toward the heart, and the inner pit of the thumb root; is under the heart. The left foot steps up and down, in coordination with the movement of the left hand. The rear foor remains stationary. The five fingers of both hands; spread out without contact with each other. The left thumb, should be in a horizontal crossing position. The left foreftinger stretches upward. The thumb and the forefinger of both hands, form a "tiger mouth". or semi-circle.

The eyes sight falls between the thumb root and forefinger tip of the left hand. Both shoulders relax and draw strength. Both hips roll in and draw strength. Both elbows drop down with strength, which does not manifest itself. The rear elbow bends inside, but should never be held at a dead angle. This bending has to be rounded out as in a half moon. Both knees bend inside with strength, that does not manifest itself. This is called the harmony of the elbows with the knees. Both heels twist outside with strength, which does not manifest itself. This is called the harmony of the hands and feet. All three of these together, are called the Three Outer Harmonies
