ARTHRITIS

The following, is for informational purposes only, and is in no way to be interpreted as diagnosis, treatment, or to take the place of training; whether from a Nutritional Doctor, Medical Doctor, Healer, American Red Cross, Accupuncturist, or Herbalist. It would best be used, by those already trained, to augment their knowledge base.

Arthritis is caused by a body condition called acidosis; an over acid condition in the body. Excess acid usually settles in the joints, causing inflamamtion and pain. This excess inhibits the production of natural cortisone, which feeds the adrenal glands and helps the body metabolize proteins.

Measuring acidity
According to the pH (potential of hydrogen) scale; the ideal pH range for humans is between 6.0 and 6.8, mildly acetic. Values below 6.3 are acidic and values above 6.8 are alkaline.

Self-test for acid/base balance
Purchase pH paper from a drugstore and apply saliva and/or urine to the paper. Red litmus paper turns blue in an alkaline medium and blue litmus paper turns red in an acid medium. Be sure to perform the test before eating or at least an hour after eating.

Eliminating low acid or acid absorbing foods: Eliminate all sugars, white flour products, processed foods which contain chemicals, and high acid foods such as tomatoes and oranges. Also avoid salt, vinegar, mustard, pepper, coffee, black teas, tobacco and alcohol. Good low acid foods are raw salads, fresh sprouts, pecans, brewer's yeast, wheat germ, and raw vegetables.

The first sign of gout, in men, usually starts with pain in the big toe. Gout is a form of acidosis.

ARTHRITIS CURES

  • Raw potatoes and turnips are great for acidosis. If potatoes are boiled, use the water as a soaking bath for hands and feet, to relieve stiffness in the joints.

  • Cherries and cherry juice, help the body rid itself of acids and take the bumps out of the knuckles. Take for 4 consecutive days, followed by 4 days off, then repeat.

  • Sage is helpful for both arthritis and rheumatism pain. Take 1 ounce sage (white preferable) to 1 1/2 pints water. Simmer together for 20 minutes and take 1/2 cup when needed.

  • Parsley tea helps reduce acidosis pain. Use 1 quart boiling water and 1 cup packed parlsey, steep together for 15 minutes, strain and refrigerate. Use 1/2 cup as needed for pain.

  • White grape juice helps absorb the acid in the system, drink 2-3 glasses daily.

  • Alfalfa helps to relieve pain form acidosis. Eat fresh sprouts daily, take tablets, or make tea with 1 teaspoon to 1 cup boiling water, drinking 2-3 cups daily.

  • Drink water with fresh lemon juice taken as often as possible; 1/2 to three lemons per glass of water.

Eat Alkaline-Forming Foods; avocados, corn, dates, fresh coconut, fresh fruits (most), fresh vegetables (most), honey, maple syrup, molasses, raisins, and soy products

Vegetables, especially raw vegetables, balance the acidity and alkali levels in the blood. Although it might seem that citrus fruit would have an acidifying effect on the body, the citric acid they contain actually has an alkalinizing effect in the system.

Low-Level Alkaline-Forming Foods
Almonds, Blackstrap molasses, Brazil nuts Buckwheat Chestnuts Lima beans, Millet, and Soured Dairy Products.

AVOID Acid-Forming Foods;
Alcohol Asparagus Beans Brussels sprouts Catsup Chickpeas Cocoa Coffee Cornstarch Cranberries Eggs Fish Flour; flour based products Legumes Lentils Meat Milk Mustard Noodles Oatmeal Olives Organ meats Pasta Pepper Plums Poultry Prunes Sauerkraut Shellfish Soft drinks Sugar; all foods with sugar added Tea Vinegar Aspirin, tobacco, and most drugs are also acid forming.

Low-Level Acid-Forming Foods
Butter, Canned or glazed fruit, Cheeses, Dried coconut, Dried or sulfured Fruit (most) Grains (most), Ice cream, Ice milk, Lamb's quarter's, and Seeds & nuts (most).
