Hajimemashite, minna-san. Doozo yoroshiku.
Onamae wa Jade desu.
Okay, now that I have the intro's out of the way, on to my rant!
Where I am coming from...
At the time I began this I had read the entire manga. However on the anime side I was and am sorely lacking. I have seen Dragon Ball Z Cut (WAH! They killed it!) episodes, that is, those released by Funimation, 1 to 53. I had also seen Fansubbed episodes 70 to 121! Yeah! I also had seen all the movies, except number 4. Oh and I had seen some of the Dragon Ball episodes, fansubbed. The 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai! I quite enjoyed all of these and really want to see more but it's difficult to get DragonBall where I am, so my collection is coming along slowly.
Okay, so that's were I am coming from on this...
I don't think anything especially controversial or deserving of explanation came up in this part except maybe my rendition of Goku's birth. As I remember Radiittsu remembered the time that they were putting Kakarotto into the pod. It was a very red shot. Now all I'm saying is that it is possible he was born on another planet and then shipped back to Vejiitasei before being shipped off to Chikyuu. Since the Saiyajin are such warriors, it's not inconceivable that Goku's mother was fighting all through her pregnancy. So that's what she was doing. The Saiyajin would take the bady with them but they wouldn't bother with the body. So that's what happened. Goku was born on another planet, fairly close to Vejiitasei, shipped back with the rest of his mothers squad and then shipped off again to Chikyuu. It was while he was on Vejiitasei that baby Kakarotto pissed off baby Broli.
As for the vision which the Oracle saw, I am saying what I hope you think I am. Kakarotto was/is the Legendary Super Saiyajin and he was meant to be the way that Vejiita and Ginyu thought a Super Saiyajin should be. That is a ruthless, heartless, merciless and ultra efficient killing machine. It's amazing how things can change isn't it?
Chapter One - Council's Choice
Hmm, the Council's not going to have much more to do with the fic. They've done their part and set up everything I needed them to set up.
I am sorry that for the first couple of parts Goku and co only got in to the chapters by mention from other characters. But in future chapters this will change.
Trunks and Gohan? Well, Gohan is a brain so it's not that unlikely that he would be working there is it?
Vejiita. I know this seems like Vejiita hasn't changed since the Cell Game but I just think that even though by the end of DBZ he has accepted having a family, there is still an underlying tone that he wants to crush Goku. Bulma and the others have learned to live with it though. Just to show you that this isn't as bad as it looks, I thought long and hard about giving Vejiita and Bulma marriage problems. Heck, with the way I portrayed him, it wouldn't have been that difficult but in the end I decided that this was a side detail and was entirely too un-DBZ like to be allowed. Let's face it, if they had marriage problems in DBZ the first thing we would have seen of it was the fact that they were completely broken up, not the interim steps. So Vejiita and Bulma are staying together. Vejiita is just going through a phase of wanting to, more than usual, kill Goku.
Morphine. Hmm. This is, I think, the last time he appears for a while. ^_^ I like my own characters but I'll try to cut down on their time since this is supposed to be a DBZ fic. Oh yes, I'm sure you noticed names have been taken from medicines. However if there is a fighter which has a name which is a medicine, they are not of Morphine's race. They have been renamed. Morphine is the only one of his species who is a fighter. This will become important a bit later on when Kaio-sama gets around to explaining a few things to our heroes.
As to Kohlrabika... The destruction of Vejiita-sei has always bugged me. If the Saiyajin were so involved with the planet trade then it seems inconceiveable that there were only FOUR saiyajin's off planet when Freeza choose to destroy it. Kahlrabika and the others which are referred to are adult and a few child Saiyajin's who were off planet in their squads conquering other planets. They arrived back at Vejiita-sei to find it destroyed and regrouped together and now have another planet. They know that Freeza was killed by a Saiyajin but they also know it wasn't Vejiita. They don't know that Vejiita is a super saiyajin. There is no way they could since Cell and Buu saga's were fairly confined to Chikyuu. The Z fighters did not spend a lot of time travelling around the galaxy. ^_^ They believe that Vejiita is a bit stronger than he was last known to be, that's about 20 000, but they don't think he is something special, that's why Kohlrabika thinks he is stronger. Oh, no other saiyajins except the known ones are super saiyajin. They are just in this fic because I thought it was unlikely that all the Saiyajin would be on planet when it was destroyed.
Uub uses the polite forms when addressing his mother and father because I just think of him using them.
Chapter Three - Unchanging Son's
Sorry if Pan-chan seems older than she is supposed to be. I had a lot of trouble trying to picture a ten year olds daydreams especially in this family!
By now, I'm sure you've noticed that I am a Goku fan. By default, that includes his relationship with Chichi. He does care for her and in the years after defeating Buu they managed to live very happily together. And their relationship is still there today. For her married life, she has had Goku around for the larger percentage of it. There's the five years after they were married (at her insistence), then there was a year without him, but she knew he was coming back. After that, there's a couple of months when he is in hospital, followed admittedly by another year or so of his absence. She had three years after that with him and her son, even if they were training but they would have been around. Okay so Piccolo was there as well, but so were her husband and son. The next absence is the one that's probably the real killer, but Goku did stay dead because he was trying to protect them all and from Goku's perspective, waiting to see everyone when they died would not have been a long wait. Ever noticed how he never seems to care about time? But then he came back after Buu and until the next Tenkaichi Budokai, while Goku was waiting for Uub to grow up, he and Chichi would have been living happily together. And I think that covers just about everything which is pertinent to their married life. They are a happy family that is about as stable as you can get in this universe.
Why doesn't Chichi just move to Uub's village so that Goku and Uub can continue training there? Because she has a perfectly good house and land where Goku and she live and she has responsibilities there.
And yes, although Chichi didn't really make an issue of it when Goten was younger, she'd lost the study at all costs instinct if you will, she did tutor Goten so that he got a balanced education, books and fighting. I think she is probably much more at ease with the concept of fighting now and can see that it is possible to get both a good education and a good grounding in budo if you time everything correctly. So now she is teaching Pan and Uub while Goku teaches them martial arts.
Hmm, I was writing the lunch scene and this just came to me. So it's not the most intellectually challenging piece of writing but I hope it does help to define how I have developed the characters after DBZ. I see the Son's as having good relations with each other, although they are (marred?) signified by playful fighting with each other. Goten and Pan in particular share a friendly rivalary hence their little battle and the references to the 'rules' of combat.
Side Story 2: I Never Want To Hurt You
There are too many Vejiita Bulma fics out there, (bad ones) and not enough Goku Chichi (good, bad or indifferent). Goku happens to be the main character of DBZ and once people recognise that, things should progress much more smoothly. Basically, I wrote this particular part because I was sick of bad "How (Baka) Veggie head and Bulma got together." (I counted for a day and a half on Fanfiction net and I came up with 13 dedicated B/V fics. That's just in one and a half days! See what I mean about too many out there? So anyone thinking of writing one, what makes your's special?) Anyway I thought I should put something out to try to balance the stakes. I hope it's not too bad. Anyway that is what was running around in my head when I decided to write this one and of course the fact that the situation was tailor made for it. Grin.
Chapter Four - The Invitations Arrive
NOTE: It was about this time that I actually got my hands on the Cell Saga (all of it fansubbed) and the Bardock and Trunks' specials. Not that it changes the storyline, since I was going off the manga but it may have changed some of the things in it. It's just a slight change in where I am coming from. ^_^
This bit was meant to be in chapter three but um... err... yeah.... It happens fairly frequently when I am writing that chapters get altered. Oh well...
My view on Goten is that he isn't such the girl chasing lay about that DBGT has him to be. Remember I am ignoring GT. But by the end of DBZ he wasn't that interested in fighting either. Oh well... I've made him a more balanced person. Although he is not as fight crazy as he was in his youth he still wants to train and improve but at the same time he does have a social life. He has just learnt the important life lesson of time management. ^_^ Let's face it the only two people in DBZ who are still really fight crazy and who want to improve at all costs are the natural Saiyajin's (although Pan would probably give them a run for their money.) Those with some human blood have the desire to fight but it is tempered by other influences.
Piccolo didn't want to, nor did he have time to play with Pan. He came for a specific reason, to see Uub's abilities. He may not be Kami-sama but he does have an interest in the future of the planet and so since Uub was supposed to be the new line of defence he popped up to see what was happening with him.
Uub's power level at the Tenkaichi Budokai was enough to hurt Goku while he wasn't a Super Saiyajin but if Goku had made that transition, as powerful as Uub was then, he wouldn't have been able to do anything. As Uub has learnt budo he has become more powerful and now can take on Super Saiyajin.
The droid that talked to Vejiita was programmed to be especially nice. The council does know how to deal with Saiyajin and so the messager unit was given all the right programmed responses.
Oh in my universe Capsule Corp. does have some competitors. A couple of really, really small company's which are permenantly kept that way. There are few or no equal opportunity laws and definitely no government ordering the break up of a large successful company.
