| Alert Northwest Territories 1977 Six months in the highest arctic. |

| I was 19 years old when I stepped off a Canadian Forces hercules transport aircraft in December of 1976. It was dark and the sky was full of stars like I'd never seen before. The temperature was -45 degrees and my breath made thick clouds in front of my face. The sun didn't appear for 3 more months. My adventure at the northern tip of Ellesmere Island had begun. I only regret that I didn't take more pictures, and more importantly, I didn't own a good camera. Most of the pictures here were taken with a crappy 1970s instamatic that was constantly in peril from the cold. I would whip it out, snap a shot, then stuff it under my arm inside of my parka. I am amazed that they are viewable at all after these many years. I hope they bring back some good memories for you as they have for me. Enjoy. Pte. J.
