Invincible Fighter
For lack of another way to describe this-It is a biography of martial arts using Jackie as example. Not sure what versions are out there, but I got a subtitled one that I rented. It was subtitled in Chinese and English, with the English running off the screen except for dialogue from the examples.
I was surprised. All of the film clips shown were from his movies that I haven't seen yet! I did recognize some of them from what I read about them: Fearless Hyena and a few of Lo Wei's productions including the one with martians(?) in red wigs and Jackie putting frogs and snakes in his pants! (I was told that it had to been seen to be believed; I still don't believe it!)
The first 20 minutes of this were great with training scenes and plenty of comedy. After that...*shudder*...it started to get boring. It mainly showed fights without an ounce of comedy. The 'narrator', who seemed to be a Jackie wannabe, got annoying with his commentary which I could only read parts of it because it always ran off the screen. It wasn't too hard to figure out what he was talking about, but I didn't care at that point.
During the last 30-20 minutes or so, it started to pick up. They showed some scenes that I recognized as being from Fearless Hyena. Can't wait to see that movie!
Overall, this was worth a rental though I think it spoiled a few scenes for me. If you don't plan on being able to see his early movies and want to see if you might like them or you like non-stop martial arts, you might enjoy this title.
9/10 (for the beginning and ending, ignoring the part that it might have spoiled a few scenes)
6/10 (overall. I almost fast forwarded it! That would have been a first!)
