Part 1

Jack sat in his usual place in English. The summer had seemed to drag on forever and he had spent his time either sitting around alone or with Jen or thinking about Ethan. Ethaneven the thought of Ethan made Jack's stomach turn. Miss Ashworth, the new English teacher, made the usual speech that most new teachers did. She said she wouldn't take any crap from anyone. Then the door opened and in stepped a boy. He wasn't the best looking guy in the world but he lookedokay. His hair was brown, dark brown, and he was a little overweight. He held his head low so no one could see his face.
"Okay kids, we have a new student with us today. This is Todd Medway. Take the seat third row back, fourth seat. The boy next to you is Jack. I want you to work with him this semester," said Miss Ashworth.
As Todd made his way down the row, Charlie Eccles shouted, "Watch out. The puffter might hit on you!"
The whole class turned to see both Jack's and Todd's reaction. Jack's was one of shame and hurt and Todd must have noticed because of he just sat down and said, "Well if he did, I would be flattered unlike some of the girls you probably hit on."
Todd had lifted his face to say this. He had the most terrific green eyes Jack had ever seen. His face was quite round and he gave Jack a big smile as he sat down while the class erupted into laughter. Even Miss Ashworth was laughing or rather trying not to. The lesson continued.
Jack leaned over to Todd and whispered, "Thanks a lot."
Todd turned his face to Jack and gave another smile. After class, they began to talk. It seemed they almost had the exact timetable and Jack was pleased to have found a new friend. He couldn't wait to introduce him to Jen.
