MORGAN BOURKE AND JULIA HOGAN
The next Bourke family encountered was Morgan Bourke and Julia Hogan.
Morgan was Baptized 4 Aug 1840 Parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary. God parents were
James Mitchell and Mary Ryan. Morgan
married Julia 2 Feb 1874 in the Parish of Lattin / Cullen, County Tipperary. There witnesses were Morgan O'Brien and
Ellen Maher. Morgan is mentioned in
the Guy’s directory of Munster published in 1886 and the Bassett’s County
Tipperary directory published in 1889 in both of these directories Morgan’s
occupation is listed as farmer and he is living in Moanmore. Morgan and Julia lived in Townland of
Moanmore Parish of Emly on the family farm. I was able to find Morgan and Julia
in the 1901 Census of Ireland. Morgan's occupation was listed as a farmer and
rate collector. Morgan and Julia
had eight children.
Morgan Thomas - Born 15 Jan
1875. Morgan was Baptized 16 Jan 1875 in the Parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary, his
Godparents were Thomas Mitchell and Nora Shanahan. Morgan Immigrated to the United
States around 1897. At this time
his name was changed form Bourke to Burke.
After clearing immigrations he went to Waterbury Connecticut where in
1900 he lived as a boarder of John E. Ross at 455 West Main Street. He became a citizen of The United States
15 Oct. 1900 and was sworn in the District Court of Waterbury, County of New
Haven. Morgan married Catherine
Luddy (see Luddy family) in Waterbury Connecticut abt. 1906. Morgan and Catherine lived in the
Luddy's house on Charles St in Waterbury Connecticut for a while then they moved
to 11 Albion St. Waterbury Connecticut. Morgan
worked for the United States Postal Service until he retired. Morgan died 12 Jan 1963 at the Villa
Maria Convalescent Home in Plainfield, Connecticut and was buried in New St.
Joseph Cemetery in Waterbury Connecticut 15 Jan 1963. Morgan and Catherine had 5 Children:

Daniel - Baptized 29 Apr 1876 Parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary, his
Godparents were Matthew Hogan and Catherine Powers. Daniel did not marry. He lived on the family farm in Moanmore
Parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary until his death in 31 Jan 1961. Daniel was a member of the Tipperary
County Council for many years.
Matthew - Baptized 22 July 1877 Parish of Emly, Co, Tipperary. His Godparents were Ml. Dallon and Mary
McGrath. Matthew did not
marry. He died at the age of
seventeen.
Sarah - Baptized 5 Oct 1879 Parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary, her
Godparents were Morgan Powers and Mary Powers. Sarah did not marry. She lived on the family farm in Emly,
Co. Tipperary until her death after 1965.
Catherine - Baptized 13 Mar 1881. God parents were Matthew Mitchell and
Anne Mitchell. Catherine did not
marry. Catherine moved to ******
England where she founded a school. Catherine
died *******.
Ulick Augustine-Ulick was
Baptized 7 Aug 1882 Parish of Emly,
Co. Tipperary, his Godparents were Edmond Hickey and Anne Hickey. Ulick married Ella Carey and lived
in Chicago Ill. Ulick and Ella did
not have children. He was an executive with The General Outdoor Advertising
Company. Ulick died in 28 July 1959
in Chicago, Ill. As part of his will Ulick left a donation to the Parish of
Emly. It is my understanding that
they constructed a Football Field with this money and is in his name.
Edmond - Baptized 27 Jul 1884 Parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary, his
Godparents were Morgan Bourke and Margaret Kinkeal. Edmond immigrated to the
United States and is believed to have lived in San Antoine, Texas and was
involved in the Outdoor Advertising business.
William B. - Baptized 24 Aug 1887 Parish of Emly, Co. Tipperary, his
Godparents were Daniel Shanahan and Elizabeth Hickey.
