This is the view of Dili from the hills south of town.  It's not quite Rio de Janeiro from the top of Sugar Loaf, but it is truly beautiful -- and we have our own statue of Christ at the tip of the promontory just right of center in the picture.
This is looking farther to the west than the picture above. 
This is a view further to the east than the pictures above.  The dirt road leads to the village of Remexio, I believe.  The hills on the left in this picture are the same ones that are at the extreme right in the first picture.
Looking back towards the west again.  And these are piles of firewood for sale.  As I mentioned in one of my missives, one unfortunate result of some of the destruction of families' gas stoves and such in the 1999 violence is that people are now forced to burn wood for cooking.  I suppose many families in rural areas never had gas stoves and have always relied on wood, but deforestation is the result in any case.
