Being a part of the MAT Program at the University of St. Mary has been a great experience for me. I have learned several new things about teaching and my students. I learned how important it is to continue researching new ideas and strategies for teaching. Every course I was in provided me with new knowledge and ways of looking at my students. After being in this program I feel that I have a deeper understanding of teaching. It is more than just standing in front of a classroom of 20 or so students and teaching them a lesson. As a teacher one must really get to know their students and understand how each one learns best. Allowing my students to work in cooperative learning groups has been a great experience for me as well as my students. I have done a great amount of research on cooperative learning groups throughout the courses and have found many great sources to support using them. My students have enjoyed working in them and the projects we have completed. I have made my classroom more brain-compatible to help benefit my students. I now understand that students need to feel comfortable in their classroom in order to learn their best. They need to feel safe and at ease. In the years to come I plan to continue using everything I have learned through the MAT Program in my classroom. I will continue researching to find new ways to better my teaching. |
