"He's not dead." was the first thing Lisa said to her. Debbie looked around to find a bunch of papers, letters, and pictures all over the couch.
"What is all this?"
"I've been trying to keep myself busy." Lisa said. Looking carefully, Debbie saw that the letters were addressed to Lisa from Michael. The pictures were of Michael and Lisa. The papers were lyrics and sheet music.
"Old memories." Lisa explained. "I'm trying to put together my scrapbook."
"I'm so sorry." Debbie said.
"But he's not dead." Lisa said sternly. "I've known him forever. He had no reason to do that. No reason."
Debbie wasn't so sure. "He was going to get arrested. Maybe even put to death."
Lisa looked up at her. "You think you know him, don't you? You think he really has feelings for you?"
Debbie nodded. "I know it."
Lisa shook her head. "Flames can't kill vampires. He could've escaped if he wanted to. Easily."
There was a silence.
"I just have to wonder where he is and what he's doing. I'm scared he might go overboard."
"I think he has already." Debbie said. "A pure killing machine." She moved some of the papers from the couch and sat down. "What happened to him?"
Lisa shrugged. "He's a vampire. And a very powerful one. And....vampires kill."
Suddenly the phone rang.
"Hello?" Lisa said.
"Hey, it's me." It was Janet's voice.
"Wow, we haven't talked in a while. Are you okay?"
There was a silence. There was only the sound of Janet crying.
"Oh Janet, it's okay." Lisa said in a soft voice.
"I don't get it. " Janet sobbed. "What happened?"
"I wish I could answer that, Jan."
Lisa glanced at Debbie who was quietly look at Lisa's papers that were scattered about on the couch.
"But I think it'll be okay." Lisa said. Suddenly, there was a shrill scream coming from the other line.
"Janet! Are you okay?"
"That wasn't me. That was LaToya upstairs. I'm calling from Hayvenhurst." Janet said with some confusion in her voice. "Hold on. I'm going to see what's going on."
Janet put Lisa on hold and ran upstairs.
"Toya, what's going on?"
There was no answer but she continued up the stairs into LaToya's bedroom. LaToya lay in her bed under the covers.
"Is something wrong?"
Janet came closer to the bed to see LaToya's eyes wide, in supposable fear. Her mouth was open slightly, and she was barely breathing. It was as if she was trying hard to exhale.
"Toya! Toya, what happened??" Janet began to panic. She heard footsteps and knew somebody was standing at the doorway. LaToya gasped and became still and pale. She stopped breathing. Janet stood still, her heart racing, and didn't look up.
