| BANGKOK INT'L SOFTBALL LEAGUE TOURNEY, 21-23 NOV. J1M came on strong day-1 winning two games ... against Singapore Fattboyzz 14-12 (2nd Place 2002) and Chinese Taipei 18-15. However, day-2 found J1M laid bare, almost spent. Unable to mount a breakout offensive game, J1M fell twice. Chinese Tainan and Indonesia Worldwide-Movers handed the boys their first two losses (now 17-2), banishing J1M from further play, having gone too far to drop to Governors cupThe 400ft fence held fast like an impenetrable fortress against all J1M attacks. All long fly balls, usually HRs in Dubai, fell short of the fence. Nevertheless, J1M placed in the top third (5th of 18 teams), against teams with prior stadium-ball experience. Dubai MESC, Oct. 14-17. Fall 2003 MESC A-Division Champs "Just 1 More" of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, staged a repeat championship performance. (now 15-0). |

| KEVIN HOLLOWAY ( Kidd Holloway ) Kevin, picked up for the BISL tourney, filled a hole left in the OF by the departure of Jim Cisneros. Kidd held down the LC position admirably, and batted well on the day-1, ... like th rest of us. The entire J1M sqad struggled on day-2. Ran down everything hit to LC. Forgot his batbag at home! DOUG GROSCH. ( big doug ) Doug came as an insurance player for the J1M, ready to fill any spot left empty by a fallen player. We called on Doug two different times in the tourney to fill-in when we needed help at the batter's box. He hit the ball hard both times, but unfortunately suffered the same impenetrable defense experienced by the whole of J1M. Great job Doug, thanks. (Also played ATM for Kidd, and brought Kidd's forgotten batbag.) JOHN "Shaw" SCHENCK (Redemption) Original member of J1M, John is known for his modesty ( "I will carry this whole damn team on my damn back, if I have to!" -- he was serious). Had a good Bangkok tourney, but now in Left-Field, was the hardest working man on J1M. He ran down every damn LF ball, from beginning to end of the tourney, which came too soon for the squad. MIKE BECK ( da shiznit, fo' rizz-al ! ) One of the co-founders of J1M, Mike spawned the idea after getting ever so slightly more than "zero" laying time in the self-paid 2002 Oman tourney. He's considering developing a "Just 2 More" concept after the Bangkok Tourney. However, Mike was/is an all-star in our eyes, and the eyes of all playas in bkk. ERNEST YUKL ( "Sonny" ) Held down the books & statsin Bangkok, and made a little money doing Thai-English translations on the die. Wife, Moon, may have had to best trip of all of J1M, reuniting with family on this short tourney-vacation. Way to go Sonny, really big cool points! TODD VANSKY ( Coach ) The other co-founder of J1M, Todd told Mike "shut up, ... you're talking to yourself !!!" Together, they launched the now (in)famous J1M idea ... the rest is history. Todd played good 2nd base all through the BISL tourney, but his bat fell prey to excessive pressure placed on him as Player-Coach -- self-imposed! PAT MORRIS ( J-Y-D ) It's a well-known fact that Pat is the "firecracker" on the J1M squad. Has the ability to get the fellas going with one or two howling screams in the dugout, and has become known among our team as the Junk-Yard-Dawg (J-Y-D). Got more red-dirt on his uniform than usual, diving after those numerous "rocket" shots down the hot corner (3rd base), by the Tainan and Indonesia teams. JOHN NEVILLE Hell of a tournament at RC, ran down many balls, and also covered a lot of ground (with Kevin also), when the infield mistakenly pulled him in. "Hey guys, play in shallow, make them "burn" you! Next play infield was heard yelling, , OOOPS! My bad! You guys go back to original scrategy!!! CHRIS CRUZ ( Cruzer ) His trip to Bangkok is free after winning all the bets and ignoring the 3rd Base Coach yelling "stop" here, "stop" here!!!. Holds the record for the longest-timed Inside the Park HR in the BISL tourney. Cruzer slowed down the pace of the games from Pitcher's mound. (there was actually a mound!), giving our outfield time to get setup in the huge outfield. When they got his timing down, we ran Mike Gray against them, forcing opponents to adjust their timing.. MANDO MARTINEZ ( Tuk-Tuk Andretti ) Played good SS in BKK, and made a couple of good defensive plays, but stood out more for consistent base-hitting to the mid-field with his DeMarini F2. Most reckless tuk-tuk driver in Thailiand!!! MIKE GRAY ( rapid fire ) Filled in on the "hill" when Mr. Cruz was run outta town. Changed the pace of the pitching game, making the opponents adapt to his rapid fire style. Then, turned over the reigns to Cruz. KEITH BROWN ( Softball HO! , 'Mr Peanut' ) Named "Softball HO!" by his lovely wife Bennie. Rumor has it will change teams for an cheap economy class ticket. Specializes in "trash talking" at the opponents. Ho! was called a "fake ass" cleanup hitter by former MVP Art Udovich, because of the lack of HR production. J1M had "zero" over the tence HRs in this tourney. ART UDOVICH (Just-1-Game) MVP of the Fall MESC, Art pulled off an amazing comeback from a dislocated shoulder that occured in the Prelim games (Art was injured in prelims last tourney also). In Bangkok, hit the ball hard, but those long-range bombs in Dubai (300ft+) were routine fly balls in Bangkok's Monster stadium. Distinguished Alumni: JAMES CISNEROS ( "Pitbull SA" ) JC is a well-known figure around softball circles, having played ball in the Middle East for the last 10-20 years. Has a great stroke, and a sweet glove. Played on the Rebels, Ultimate Thunder, and Raiders clubs over the years. Owns the best looking feet in men's softball. |
