| BANGKOK INT'L SOFTBALL LEAGUE TOURNEY, 21-23 NOV. J1M came on strong 1st day winning first two games, against Singapore Fattboyzz 14-12 (2nd place 2002), then Chinese Taipei 18-15 (well-placed 2002). However, the 2nd day was laid us bare thwarting all attempts to breakout. J1M fell twice. Chinese Tainan and Indonesia Worldwide-Movers handed the boys their first two losses, banishing J1M from further play. The 400ft fence held fast like a fortress against J1M attacks. All our long fly balls, usually HRs in Dubai, fell short of the fence. Nevertheless, J1M placed 5th of 18 teams, all with prior stadium-ball experience. Dubai MESC, Oct. 14-17. Fall 2003 MESC A-Division Champs "Just One More" of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, staged a repeat championship performance. |

| Generally speaking, our friends are the softball community involved in the Dhahran Slo-pitch Softball league, with a sprinkling of various external talent & friends. ART UDOVICH (Just-1-Game) MVP of the Fall MESC, Art pulled off an amazing comeback from a dislocated shoulder that occured in the Prelim games (Art was injured in prelims last tourney also). In fact, Art played his first actual tournament game for J1M at the Fall MESC. His amazing recovery was attributed to ultrasound treatment at the First Aid Station and plenty "Brufen". Upon winning the MVP award, an emotional Art just sat for a moment, getting in touch with his feminine side, amazed at the generosity of his teammates. Meantime, an unnamed player was seen stomping around the facility, mumbling something like "he stole it from me, it was mine!...It just ain't right!!!" JOHN "Shaw" SCHENCK (Redemption) Original member of J1M, John is known for his modesty ( "I will carry this whole damn team on my damn back, if I have to!" -- he was serious). His stark good looks, chiseled profile and reckless abandon playing style remind most ladies of David Hasselhoff, especially when he's digging in the sand to get the ball. Real men don't care about that stuff. In addition, he's the only player with a unique dance move that nearly challenges the KB "worm". We just call it the Shawshank splits (only seen at the Metro Hotel Rattlesnake club, late late at night). MIKE BECK ( da shiznit, fo' rizz-al ! ) One of the co-founders of J1M, Mike spawned the idea after getting ever so slightly more than "zero" playing time in the self-paid 2002 Oman tourney. He was seen walking through the Oman airport, mad as hell, thinking aloud: "If I build it, ... they will come!" Todd Vansky heard him. TODD VANSKY ( Coach ) The other co-founder of J1M, Todd told Mike "shut up, ... you're talking to yourself !!!" Together, they launched the now (in)famous J1M idea ... the rest is history. Also, he holds claim to being chief architect of the J1M "How can I hold a brother down?" strategy, modeled on the principles espoused by another well-known local team, boasting ... "my 'daddy' would have been proud". Todd's Policy: Nobody gets stroked here! PAT MORRIS ( J-Y-D ) It's a well-known fact that Pat is the "firecracker" on the J1M squad. Has the ability to get the fellas going with one or two howling screams in the dugout, and has become known among our team as the Junk-Yard-Dawg (J-Y-D). He earned MVP honors in the Spring MESC in Dubai (even played a whole tournament to get it). JOHN NEVILLE Age 33, Married no Children. Born in Idaho. John claims Houston as hometown. Currently working for ITT in Qatar as Fire Chief. Drinks, plays ball and works. Hates "Little Johnny" jokes!!! ;-) A fine new addition to the J1M roster this Dubai. After getting settled in & comfortable with the team on the 2nd day was spotted running around in some Ruby Red cleats with matching shorts, quoting some nursery rhyme , " ... gee, we're not in Kansas any more Toto ... ! " (He gave us fair warning) ERNEST YUKL ( "Sonny" ) The only player feeling stress at Dubai, Sonny was actually seen stopping on the way to first base to do a jump-split "in yo face" cheer, when he broke through the buck-fitty (.150) batting threshold. Promising to take his game to "another level", he wrapped up this tourney performance in the .200-.300 range, and held down RF, books, beers, & Serg. Sometimes not in that order. CHRIS CRUZ ( A-T-M ) A well-known softball talent in the Middle-East, Philippines, ... and ... uhhhhhhh, .... uhhhhhhh, ... who wuz I talking about??? Rumor has it, buys Redemption's drinks after losing bets for most home-runs each game. A-T-M, as ShawSchenck calls him, contends his trip to Bangkok is free after winning all the bets off Redemption. MANDO MARTINEZ ( mando ) No-show in Fall Dubai ... bad iqama ... bad iqama. Thinks a Trifecta is a management style.. (fyi ... Triumvirate is a form of gub-ment, Trifecta is a horse race). MIKE GRAY ( mr gray ) Besides pitching a great game, keeps his perspective (and the rest of us) in balance. May be the only player older than KB. However, Mr Gray breaks down more often. (well, maybe) KEITH BROWN ( Softball HO! , 'Mr Peanut' ) Named "Softball HO!" by his lovely wife Bennie. Rumor has it will change teams for an cheap economy class ticket. Specializes in "trash talking" at the opponents. Ho! slowed down switching teams, due to lack of closet space for new jerseys. Heard explaining away team changes: "HO's gotta eat too!!!" (Teams with no "hold a brother down" policy may contact at Ho!-bile# 966 5 482 9846) Distinguished Alumni: JAMES CISNEROS ( "Pitbull SA" ) JC is a well-known figure around softball circles, having played ball in the Middle East for the last 10-20 years. Has a great stroke, and a sweet glove. Played on the Rebels, Ultimate Thunder, and Raiders clubs over the years. Owns the best looking feet in men's softball. |
