Notes on Choosing a Digital Camera

If you are looking at a new digital camera, and you want to use it for competition photography, consider looking for the following features:

Resolution: 3 Megapixels or better. 5 Megapixels is a good number for cameras purchased in 2003.
Sensitivity: Look for ISO100 as a minimum. A camera that can do ISO400 and above is a plus for dark situations.
Lens: A 5x or better "true" (not digital) zoom would be great. A f/2.8 or faster (lower number) lens is a plus.
Storage: Enough to hold 200-300 photos per day - unless you want to upload to a PC between numbers.
Power: Rechargeable NiMH batteries, with a second set in your camera bag.
Other desirables: In-axis tripod mount, remote shutter release, USB interface, Microdrive compatibility

My current pick for a new "competition" digicam: The Newest Nikon Coolpix or the Minolta Dimage 7 series. Check www.dpreview.com for more camera reviews. Your mileage may vary.
