This engine came about as a thought exercise after a few months of online dialogue between myself and Mike (j9fd3s). In a nutshell, what could a peripheral port do if its port timing were optimized for midrange and not outright max HP? I calculated the area of the intake ports on various intake manifolds and it worked out that a 40mm ID tube should have sufficient flow for 200ish horsepower. The shortest port height possible for that area was calculated and worked out on some degree-calibrated rotor housings. Then, shortly after I started disassembly of the core engine (the engine that was pulled for the Quasi-Evil Engine) I was directed to some Mazda factory SAE papers. Turns out that Mazda had already done wirk with engines very similar to this port timing, and their results looked quite promising. And so things just fall coincidentally into place.
