Sub-Novice
More Classes -- On to Competition
In Sub-Novice class, Izzee and Mom worked on learning all of the basics to compete in Novice obedience.  These include heeling on-leash, figure-eight on-leash, stand for examination, recall, finish, long sit (one minute, with handler in sight), and long down (three minutes, with handler in sight).  Novice is the first (and easiest) level of obedience competition.  Competition at each level is divided into "A" and "B" classes.  In Novice, "A" is for handlers who have not yet won the "Companion Dog" title on any dog, and "B" is for more experienced handlers.  Izzee is Mom's Novice A dog.
Advanced Novice Show Prep & Pre-Open
Advanced classes are designed for dogs (and their trainers) who are planning to compete in AKC (American Kennel Club) or other dog registry organization obedience trials.  In addition to the things studied in the Sub-Novice class, Izzee and Mom work on off-leash heeling.  After earning a qualifying score 3 times (under 3 different judges), Izzee has her "Companion Dog" title, and can put the letters "CD" after her name.

Izzee earned her CD with 3 first place scores of 185-1/2, 185, and 181, out of Novice A.   She is now "UCD Isadora Belle CD CGC".  (Check the details.)

This class also supplies an introduction to the skills needed for "Open" obedience, which is the competition for the "Companion Dog Excellent", or "CDX" title.  It includes going over jumps and fetching a dumbbell.  The sit-stay and down-stay are longer (3 minutes and 5 minutes) and are done with the handler out of sight.
IZZEE'S OBEDIENCE TITLES:

CGC = Canine Good Citizen (AKC)
UCD = United Kennel Club (UKC) Companion Dog
CD = Companion Dog (AKC)

Izzee and her Mom take classes at Canine Community Center.  Students and teachers from CCC have been very successful in competition in both obedience and agility.
Attention, Motivation, and Handling
AMH class is a special class that is taught only twice or three times a year.  It is taught by the director of CCC, Linda Brady, and is an introduction and overview of her philosophy and method of training a dog for obedience competition.  Each class session lasts for 1-1/2 hours.  The first half-hour is done with the dogs in crates or on a down-stay.  This is the time for handlers to learn theory, and practice their footwork.  The last hour gives the teams a chance to practice together.  In 6 short weeks, there is a LOT of material covered.  A class like this is invaluable for anyone wanting to compete in obedience.
