Cassie is a single mom whose youngest son just went away to college on a scholarship. She has scrimped and saved all these years, and they have lived in a small apartment all that time. She has 2 boys. The oldest, Peter, is a veterinarian. She worked 2 and sometimes 3 jobs at a time to get ahead. She has had no help from their deadbeat dad, who took off when Peter was 8 and has never been heard from since then. She has danced, modeled, waited tables, done temp secretarial work, and tended bar. She insisted that both boys work hard in school, and the result has been that Peter went to school on a full scholarship, and now Ryan has done the same thing. Free ride. She has considerable savings stashed away, because all along it has been her dream that they be able to go to whatever school they want to go to.

She decided to do something fun for herself, so she bought a Harley Hog, and is now traveling the country. Her plan is to ride for 2 years, then go back to college herself. She wants to study to be a paralegal. Who knows, she has the determination, she just might do it.

Cassie met the other girls on a literature discussion community on the internet. The group has been communicating regularly for 6 years-discussing various books they have read. This year they decided to meet and take a small vacation together in Longville, MN. They had read that Longville was the smallest town in Minnesota to have a public library, and had heard of Longville's turtle races on National Public Radio last year.
