Ixion: Okay, just to start things off... who am I interviewing, and what is your part in Dry Kill Logic?
Dave: Dave K. - Bassist - Dry Kill Logic

Ixion: You've been out on the road with bands such as Fear Factory, and Kittie. What was it like to share the stage with such established bands?
Dave: It was and still is a learning experience. No matter how long you have toured you will always learn something from the bands you are with. From writting, playing, partying, or even how to keep your stamina for 9-11 shows in a row, you still learn. Fear Factory was our first big tour. To be respected by a band you grew up with is a compliment and a feeling of accomplishment.

Ixion: Give us a little background about Dry Kill Logic?
Dave: We all have been in local bands through the years. I met Cliff back around 1994. We jammed in his moms basement for a while and our singer moved away. Cliff, then drummer, took over the position. An old friend of mine joined on drums. After a year he left the band. At the time i was a bartender and I met Phil, he immediatly fit in. We played the eastcoast with such acts as Anthrax, Coal Chamber, Misfits, Exodus, and so on. In 1999 our guitarist needed to start a family life and left the band. Then Scott entered the picture. He learned the old C.D. in like a week. A few months later we were approached by a producer while we were just starting to tour again, and he worked out a production deal, which leds us to where we are now.

Ixion: This is an old subject, but you changed the band's name from Hinge ad to Dry Kill Logic. Why did the change take place?
Dave: In a nutshell, we touring with F.F. and we found out a recording studio owned the name. He wanted $$$$ and was going to sue us. We both agreed on hinge A.D. After a week he said no. So in comes Dry Kill Logic. We might have won the law suit, but that would have delayed everything by months.

Ixion: Well, personally I think it was a change for the better. How did you come up with the name DKL?
Dave: While we were in the recording studio, probably for the 18 straight day at like 3 am, Phil was reading an instruction manuel for a rack system we were using to record. He came across the dry kill logic button. This is used to "mute" the dry signal, which does not have any effects on it, and allows just the "effected" signal to pass through. At the time he said it would make a goodsong title. Now that is on hell of a foot in your mouth.

Ixion: The album cover. The artwork is pretty unique... grotesque even. What was the concept behind it?
Dave: We took our original C.D. and press pictures all around our area, in old decreped buildings. One was a school that had an old burnt down stage. We combined tha idea with Phil's love for horror movies and the artists weird drawings and got the circus side show theme.

Ixion: What is your favorite song off of the album?
Dave: All of us like a different song or two, Scott loves 'em all. I would say i love to play Pain, but i like to listen to Wait and Goodnight.

Ixion: If you werent a musician, what would you be doing?
Dave: I would be making a lot more money as a phone technician. But i loved to play, and we all do it for the love of a killer live show.

Ixion: The summer is coming up soon, and with the season comes a whole slew of festivals and tours. Does the band have any big plans for the summer?
Dave: We would love to get on those big festivals. We have a big show coming up in Cali. And many things are in the works. As they say in the music business 'hurry up and wait'. Things are always changing.

Ixion: What is a live DKL show like?
Dave: When we come out the crowd is expecting an awesome show. From the huge Exorcist intro to us storming out and playing hard. Every show, no mater how sick and tired we are, as soon as we hit the stage it is like a trance. Throwing water bottles in the crowd and up on the second levels of some clubs. By the end we, and the stage are drenched, and we always get shit for that from the club. We have broken mics., stands, basses, strings, pics, drums, and even the floor. You will definatly see a powerfull energenic show that sounds excellent.

Ixion: What do you feel is more important at a show... the sound quality and musical performance, or the theatrical aspect?
Dave: Both kind of. I have seen a good sounding band and said the live show sucks. And then there could be a cool looking band where the sound is terrible. I guess the music should always be there to back you up.

Ixion: I recently read that you've been in the studio working on some new material... could you give us an update on whats going on with DKL right now, and what we can expect from the new material?
Dave: The new stuff is sick. It shows how we have grown as a band. It is more mature. The heavier stuff is more focused and we are expanding on the more musical aspect of our current C.D. This is just something to keep us busy before we go back on the road.

Ixion: Roadrunner is a label that carries some amazing and very respectable acts. Often times, when RR comes up, I just automatically associate it with good metal. How did you get hooked up with the label, and what made you decide to sign with them?
Dave: While we were just starting to play shows with Scott, a producer from Scrap 60 approached us after hearing our new songs through a mutual friend. We signed with him and continued writting until we recorded the album. The songs were shopped around to a couple of labels who wanted to sign us.We were always fans of R.R. and knew that they were the metal label and they would take care of us.

Ixion: Being signed along with some of those great and established bands on the label, do you think its given the band opportunities that DKL may not have had with other labels?
Dave: All labels have their own pluses. R.R. does metal and it got us out ther with such bands as Fear Factory, SpineShank, and Ill Nino. They made those tours happen. So it is hard to say.I t definatly is a plus that they are located in N.Y. and we can keep close and almost personal relations with them.

Ixion: Since being signed, has there been any bands that have taken you under their wings at all?
Dave: Definatly Fear Factory. They tought us how to tour right from the start. Spineshank went over seas with us and made us friends. Back home Primer 55 made us family. They opened up their lives for us.

Ixion: What so far has been your best experience playing out? Dave: The best experience would be when the bands invite us to go out and sing with them. Every night we got up there to sing Edge Crusher with Burton of F.F., and Set It Off with Primmer 55, I just go up sing and jump into the crowd.

Ixion: When starting out, every band has goals that they would like to accomplish. Have you reached or surpassed your goals?
Dave: That is hard to say. I can't really speak for the rest of the band but i never really set goals, I just tried everything and gave it everything I had, and what I got is what I got.

Ixion: Where so far has been your favorite place to play out?
Dave: From the massive shows we played in the U.K. to an audience that has never seen us before, and to our home crowd that almost quadroupled when we played N.Y.C. we loved them all. Even the small ones where there was no advertisement and a few dozen fans made it, those are great to hang out at.

Ixion: Any last words?
Dave: Sure. Visit psychodramarecords.com, for more info on us and future doings. Also buy our album, when we see ya, we'll thnk ya for it.
