Sigma Kappa was founded at Colby College in Waterville, Maine on November 9, 1874. The Eta Chapter of Sigma Kappa was founded at Illinois Wesleyan University on February 14, 1906 and was installed February 21, 1906.

For more than a century, Sigma Kappa has been uniting women in lifelong friendship, and creating a sisterhood that has encompassed thousands, across generations and around the world.
Founded a Colby College in Waterville, Maine in 1874, Sigma Kappa's goal has been to help each member develop to her greatest potential through academic success, personal growth, sisterhood and philanthropic service.
Our bond continues to bring us together over the years, to share experiences, serve others and have fun. With Sigma Kappa, college is the beginning of a sisterhood that lasts a lifetime.
Purpose of Sigma Kappa Membership: The purpose of Sigma Kappa Sorority is to unite its members in a bond of friends for the developement of character and the promotion of social, literary, and intellectual culture to support and further the program and objectives of the colleges where its chapters are funtioning; to strive for high standards of achievement-scholastically, socially, and spiritually; and to make a constructive contribution to the communities in which it collegiate and alumnae clubs are located by encouraging the exercise of the rights and obligations of good citizens and the support of worthwhile civic, social and philanthropic projects.
National Headquarters of Sigma Kappa is located at 8733 Founders Road in Indianpolis Indiana. National headquarters is the office for the entire national organization.
There are Six Awards given at the National Level. The Anderson Award, the Budd Gerontology Award, The Teamwork Award, Most Cooperation Award, the Lorah Monroe Award, and the Wick Award.
