| The second landsailer for the St. Louis fleet has arrived. It's the Manta Winjammer single. A little smaller all around but still has a top speed of 60 mph. It's about $600 dollars less than the Twinjammer and is easy to put on a car top carrier. I carry my Twinjammer in the back of my truck. The boat sticks out a bit but is secured by a couple of motorcycle straps and is very secure. Both boats can be loaded and assembled by one person | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| We had a great time the first time out with both boats. The winds were 21 kts gusting to 34 kts. We had a GPS verified speed on the single this day of 42 mph, on a previous day we had my twin up to 50 mph. With your fanny about 6 inches off the ground even 20 mph seems fast. At these speeds it is important to pay attention to the rules of sailing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Both boats tacking upwind. The size difference can easily be seen, note the bend in the single's mast | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| The landsailors will heel over just like a sailboat on water. We call it flying a wheel. The boats are are still quite controlable, but when that gust hits you have to be ready to take action fast. The boats have seatbelts that we wear in all winds. The motorcycle helmets come out for the high wind days, gloves help prevent blisters. When the boat went over this day the pilot only had to release himself from the belt, right the boat and he was back on his way. This was the first day one of the boats went over. Upon inspection we found minor damage along the mast pocket and one of the batten pockets. |
