Amendment 6 has passed.

A group of people has succeeded in using the power of government to force what they think is right on everyone. We have lost some of our private property rights and individual freedoms. As a nonsmoker I knew my tolerance level for cigarette smoke. The business owner could decide if smoking were allowed on his property or not. Now the government will decide for us.

I knew when I started this battle that it would be a hard fight. I have not regretted an instant. I have learned a lot and met a lot of wonderful people. I would like to thank some of them.

First, to everyone who sent me a nasty e-mail, thank you for teaching me that unless I make someone angry, I am not having an impact.

To Steve and Dave, thanks for helping me with my website design.

To Carol, Andy, and Michael and the rest of FORCES.org, thanks for helping to give my website international recognition, and thanks for all the links to the research on environmental tobacco smoke.

To Wanda and Martha and the rest of the gang at Speakeasy, thanks for your instant research links and witty postings. You guys are awesome!

To Marcus and the Libertarian Party of Florida, thank you for your incredible support. Libertarians are truly the only political party interested in preserving everyone’s rights, even the minority’s.

To everyone who wrote a check, handed out a flier, told a friend, or sent me an e-mail offering to help or just to say “I agree with you,” thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am constantly amazed at how far this thing went.

To Doug, Ted, Jack, Sharon, Shannon, Andy, Adam, Mark, Chuck, The General, Kirk, Taylor, and Keith…thank you for the opportunity to talk to your radio listeners about Amendment 6.

Thanks to Mr. Stan Lee of the Volusia County Libertarian Party, who scared the hell out of me back in May when he said, “Why don’t you start a website?”

And last but not least, to my husband and children, thanks for putting up with Mommy’s mini-obsession. And no, sweetie, I cannot take your allowance as a contribution. Thanks, though.

My part in this fight is over. Those more powerful than I will have to continue this battle in the legislature and the courts. I will not go away, however. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first dip into the political fray, and I believe I will be back.
